Re: Washington Post art. today on NIH trial with "SLEEN"

Thank you for your kind words, sailbd! I was very happily surprised to see the story.
I hope that many more people's stories like it will be written.

Re: TIL Immunotherapy at NCI

For consult patients are not normally inpatient. Harvest surgery and apheresis will require a 2-to-4 day hospital stay. If all goes well, the treatment visit will require 3 to 4 weeks inpatient. Sometimes patients stay elsewhere at the beginning of this stretch, but once nutropenia sets in, they're ...

I agree! There is a lot more hope today than ever before! I think you're smart to keep reading and learning in case you might need the info some day. I'm hoping you won't need it though :)

Re: TIL Immunotherapy at NCI

I asked the attending, but he only said that it's "really hard to pin down."
I knew that already :)

Re: TIL Immunotherapy at NCI

I'm back to report on Follow-up #13. Lucky 13 :) My scans show no signs of cancer! Bloodwork is good. Still NED. They asked me to consent to a new study where they will do research on my T-cells. They'd like to figure out how to "turn back the clock" and revert them to a previous state, wh...

Re: TIL Immunotherapy at NCI

A little about T-cells. I'm not a doctor, but I asked a lot of questions during and after the clinical trial. Killer T-Cells (CD8+ cells) are a type of tumor-infiltrating lymphocyte. Each T-cell is designed to recognize one (and ONLY one) antigen (bad guy). The part of the T-cell doing the "rec...

...they do not want to resect a sample from the liver, as it is too risky. Who told you that? I would question this statement. I know that they have resected liver tumors for the purpose of growing TIL. It is possible that your particular tumors are in a dangerous location within the liver, however...

Re: TIL Immunotherapy at NCI

How do you determine that you have HLA-C*0802 or HLA-A*1101? Is there a blood test for this? Or do they get it from a tumor sample? Prior to my first in-person screening, NIH sent an HLA Test Kit via Fed Ex. I took it to my local hospital, and a nurse followed the instructions to draw blood, and th...

Re: Tom marsilje

Tom and I never let a little thing like being three time zones apart get in the way of sharing our latest BIG NEWS. He was always there. No matter how many times the rug was pulled out from under him, he always got up, brushed himself off, and made himself ready for the next challenge. He wasted no ...
