Re: New to forum, rectal cancer, must make surgery choice -- help!

Everyone (almost), thanks for your contributions. It has been an exhausting, exhilarating week of research and comparisons, thoughts and feelings, rational reasoning and receptivity to signs. (My surgeon's resident says I've done more research than most medical students.) I have decided to go with ...

Re: New to forum, rectal cancer, must make surgery choice -- help!

I heavily recommend the radical option. We chose TEM, and is now paying the ultimate price. The price of life-long discomfort is nothing in comparison.

Re: Johns Hopkins Immunotherapy Paper: 100% CRC cure rate in a poorly immunogenic CRC Mouse Model

Hi DK37, already sent you private message, but I hear the pm system has problems, so just in case my msg didn't go through, I wanted to ask you here too: Being an actual CRC researcher, what do you think are currently the most promising clinical trials/ new treatment methods? Also, I've been hearing...

Re: MSKCC not accepting new colorectal patients?

Thanks for the replies everyone. I'll try to update when possible, my mind is a storm right now.... sadly, and obviously, my username is no longer relevant...have to get a new one.... FYI they said the current policy came into effect this year 2015 in late January, so just about 2 months ago? I'll h...

Re: MSKCC not accepting new colorectal patients?

My mother has 2 port-site mets on her abdomen, and she's had HIPEC surgery, so I assume they believe there is disease out side of the liver.

We have a 2nd opinion pending review at MD Anderson, and I will be taking her to Fred Hutchinson also.

Re: MSKCC not accepting new colorectal patients?

I spoke with MSKCC again today. In our initial phone call, they said only Dr Kemeny will review our case too. After reviewing my mother's case, Dr Kemeny declined to take her on. As far as current MSK policies, the person on the phone told me the website's updating lags behind what's actually happen...

MSKCC not accepting new colorectal patients?

Hi everyone, I'm trying to refer my mother to MSKCC, we live far from NY. When I called (multiple times), they said their program director has put a hold on all out of state patients more than 2 hours away. Also, they said they have nothing going on for colorectal at the moment, NOTHING, no clinical...

Re: Hello. Newly diagnosed with Stage 4.

Sad news to hear. You may want your intentions made very clear to the oncologist. For ex, if you want to pursue aggressive treatment, make sure your doctor knows this, and ask them what it will take for you to be eligible to get liver surgery.

Re: Dr Shiong, Nanthealth, best hospital choices

And it would be great if people can share specific treatments done at various places, or their own experiences. I'm scared of just blindly picking the top ranked hospital, and have it turn out that some lower ranked ones may actually have better treatment for my mother.

Dr Shiong, Nanthealth, best hospital choices

Hi everyone, I'm about to finish graduate school, and I'm planning to find a job at a place with the best possible cancer treatment for my mother (she's stage 4, peritoneal spread, currently NED & in recovery from CRS+HIPEC surgery, no spread to liver/lungs). Once I'm settled in the new city, I ...

Sad to hear this. Try to stay calm. If the tumor cells may have spread out to the peritoneal cavity, ask your doctors about HIPEC, or preventative HIPEC.

Gene therapy / treatment in other countries

Has anyone heard of this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGvGUWRrdBo The video is saying certain places like China are moving much faster with new drugs, allowing more patients to be saved, and that while US's process is more scientifically accurate & conservative, its super long process leaves...

Re: Twisted Kenny! Scan results??

Is your original local oncologist working closely with Dr Lin, I assume remotely over the phone? How did they decide on ADAPT before Folfiri, and why was Dr Lin OK with skipping Folfiri for now even though he suggested it? (just very curious)
