Re: How long after colon resection did you feel back to normal?

Nearly 4 years out and I have not returned to how I was before cancer/surgery. But my 'new normal' is quite tolerable.

Re: Stage IIIb rectal cancer 32yo/f. Will I pass tumor with chemo/rad?

As you are 3b I assume lymph node involvement.
Because of this - from my understanding, even if you had a complete response, surgery and post-op chemo would be recommended.
I'm sure your oncologist / surgical team can answer properly though.

Re: CEA and silly request but..........

CEA tests are scary obviously but I'm 99.999999% sure you'll be fine. I've never seen or read about a recurrence 5+ years after NED (or maybe 1 in about 20-30 million has had a recurrence) and I've skimmed through all 700+ pages of topics on this message board. LOL Also pretty much all doctors labe...

Re: What is "normal" CEA?

My CEA has always been 'elevated' as per my signature. My medical team has never been overly concerned by it.

Re: 4(ish) year colonoscopy result

Good to read you are ok. Stressful time when the scans etc. are due. As you know, I'm about the same time frame as you. I'm 4 years on 13 Nov and the colonoscopy was planned for October, but may not be until January. No CT scans were planned. Good luck with everything and give your dog a pat from D...

4(ish) year colonoscopy results

Hi All, Just a quick update. 2 years ago I had a post-chemo scope which showed a bunch of (7 or so) new polyps, so I had another scope scheduled for last week. Results; only 1 tiny polyp which they said they're 99% sure isn't pre-cancerous! This means no scopes for 5 years   . Thro...

Unsure if I've posted in here before, but I'm a manager for a team of design engineers. Essentially a professional bully.

Re: CEA update

Thanks Lee :)
It seems like a minor thing, but that creeping CEA has really eaten away at my brain, so it's a great feeling to see it drop at last.

It made me laugh - at this appointment the registrar didn't even talk about cancer. They seemed more interested in the hernia mesh and pain issues.

Re: Question about cea

Normal range CEA alone is not proof of absence of active cancer. Abnormal range CEA alone is not proof of presence of active cancer. So essentially, CEA trend monitoring just helps your team with your treatment / observation plan. IE whether chemo is probably reducing your tumours, whether you may n...

CEA update

Just posting as I've had a few people PM me about my CEA, which has remained fairly high and gradually trended up despite being NED on scans. Started 8.4 at diagnosis; 4.0 after chemo finished; got as high as 5.3 last year. I am really happy as my most recent CEA test showed a drop for the first tim...
