After 65 years of which 4,5 years with cancer my dad has passed away

It is with great sadness that I announce that my dear father has passed away Sunday the 9th of April. I don't post this just to have your grief, but it's when people look for my posts in the future they will see that my dad's 'story' has ended as I won't visit this forum anymore. He had a great life...

Re: Help: painful abscess unable to operate

Thanks for your advice, sounds 'good'. Can you describe the closed drain system perhaps a bit more? What is the exact difference
And they place it while being monitored with ct-scan to place it correctly?

They stated that contents of the cecum could flow in the belly when they place a drain.

Help: painful abscess unable to operate

We experience a difficult time at the moment. My father developed a very painful abscess near his buttock. He went to the hospital for it as he couldn't sit anymore and had constant pain. We were afraid it was his pelvic mets causing it, but scans showed it was a abscess which probably was triggered...

How to fight fatigue caused by Xeloda?

Hi all, I've read 2 tips while being on Xeloda: keep hydrated and keep moving (sports, walking etc.) whenever possible. Does anybody have other useful things to consider? A magic pill which gives an immediate energy boost would be nice, but that will be a bit too much to ask. My father is on chemo f...

Re: Stable scan

Very glad to hear! A huge relief I can imagine after the previous growth. Did they mention anything about the recurrent local cancer?

Re: Sacrectomy? Or not?

I'm sorry to hear your experience. Be very, very, proactive is the one main thing I would advice. We did go for a 2nd opinion and considering what I read I would go for that in your case as well. Further QOL is at stake here as the pelvic area is full of nerves and organs. A sacretomy might impact w...

It's MSS and he's also kras mutant, so actually shouldn't be the nicer tumour cells devastating his body....though his survival proves that doesn't say all!

After rectal cancer, liver mets and local recurrence now 1 lung met - advice very welcome

Well my father had liver mets, recurrence at rectum but now also has the one he didn't had yet: lung met. Situation in short: September '16 ct-scan showed 5mm lung thing, however too small to state if it's a met. 5 months later new scan, cea rise (from 18 to 34, his cea is very sensitive) and it's n...

Re: total pelvic exenteration

I rarely post here anymore though I used to be a frequent visitor. However a reply here from someone whose father had more or less had this operation. I do realize this operation can be more extensive for women. However my father has no prostate, bladder, rectum anymore and also lives with a colosto...

Does skin cancer raise cea?

Perhaps somebody here knows it...my dad has got his blood tested for cea. However he also had skin cancer which is removed just now after his blood was tested. We'll get the cea results next week. Is it possible that the skin cancer effects the cea level?

Re: Low blood pressure and dizzy spells, what could it be?

Thank you very much for your input. I also suggested it could be that he doesn´t drink enough and it´s assuring the same is said here. Especially as it´s getting warmer last weeks. There is another explanation for it as my father has besides a colostomy since January 2013 als a urostomy as ´gift´ fr...

Low blood pressure and dizzy spells, what could it be?

My father has incurable colon cancer as last October some tiny pelvic tumours couldn't be removed. He is however handling it very well physically, playing golf, walking, cycling etc. He doesn't have chemo or other treatment now, it's more a wait & see approach which we are happy with and the onc...

Re: Incurable mets in lower pelvis - what to ask onc?

Thanks for your answers! Well weisssoccermom the pelvic exenteration is actually what my father had, that's why it's pretty amazing that 2 months after surgery he was skiing as if nothing had happened :-) Perhaps when the mets starts to grow they can remove most of the cancer again so he doesn't hav...

Incurable mets in lower pelvis - what to ask onc?

My dad was operated last October where the docs found out that the one recurrent local tumour didn't turn out to be one, but multiple tiny scattered around the lower pelvis. They removed the most they could, but couldn't get everything. Since then he's definitely incurable and the surgeon told us af...
