Booze and the Ileostomy Takedown

Hey all; So, opinion. I'm a week after my reversal. Things are going well, actually. I have 1-2 BMs a day and they're flaky with some looseness - like somebody is whittling a light oak. I still can't predict when it's going to happen, and there's usually three hours of a bloating, "bleh" f...

Re: Reversal question

Most of the problems occur, when you have major loss of rectum. If your surgery was confined to your sigmoid, I would have liked to have been in your shoes. You should do better than most  Regards, Michael Thanks. Moments like this I get a little humble on the board - so many people with diff...

Re: Reversal question

Yes, keep posting! It does help to get info on what others experiences have been but just know the range of that experience seems to be all over the place. I am just over 5 months out now..WOW....time flies. My experience has not been bad at all. I do remember the slow down right out of the hospita...

Re: Reversal question

You'll get a few days rest, but once it starts to flow, you'll be pretty busy. Yeah, that's what I'm anticipating/afraid of. Today that "area" is getting a little puffy - which makes me nervous as there's no output - but a few exchanges with my doctor have made me calm down. . I'm told if...

Reversal question

Hey, all. I'm on Day 4 of the reversal. Got sent home yesterday after a couple of poops and a couple of meals stayed down. Since then, I had one BM last night (and a small meal) and a small breakfast... lots of noise and some gas, but no liquids or solids. Anybody have any experience with the "...

Re: Reverse Ileostomy Journal: Day 1

Okay, so I'm on day 3, I guess. Surgery Friday, here I am Sunday. Last night was a bit of a nightmare... The painkiller I'm on is Dilaudid, It did the job but apparently there's a side-effect: Itchiness. About 10pm every inch of my body felt like it was covered in insects. Three rounds of Benadryl l...

Reverse Ileostomy Journal: Day 1

Hey all; So, yesterday the takedown. I was nervous as my first surgery had resulted in a tear which had hen resulted into 10 days at INC, but I took the tests and was cleared for reversal... 10 weeks after it was placed there. Got into the hospital early as requested: So consequently, they were runn...

Re: Ileostomy Reversal Timeline

So I'm on for Friday of next week. No booze or blood thinners for me until then, I suppose. Everybody assures me it's an easy surgery... and a difficult process afterwards. (I'll take any encouragement / advice) I have been doing physical therapy - core exercises and that stuff... and I still have t...

Re: Ileostomy Reversal Timeline

Just got back from the Doctor. Looks like they want to do it even earlier since the X-ray was clear.

Excited to start the process, nervous about the after-path. I'll journal it here, to the best of my ability, since so many of your stories helped me after my DX.

Perhaps I should invest in a Bidet?

Ileostomy Reversal Timeline

Hey all. So... There is discussion about reversing my loop ileostomy in November, which would be about 12 weeks from it's creation. While I can't wait to get rid of this bag, I've read enough stuff to wonder whether that's too soon. The X-rays cleared me but... I'd like to know other people's experi...

Screening schedule

Hey all. So, after a long conversation with my ONC and my wife, I've decided against Chemo... all the risk factors were in my favor, they believe they got it all and "statistics." I'm good with the choice, especially knowing I'll be able to reverse this ileostomy. The next step is an aggre...

Re: Choosing not to do Adjuvent Radiation- Advice Appreciate

Hi. So, I was stage 2... my tumor was T3N0M0. Everything was low risk and my Oncatype score came in low. The doctor's recommended no chemo, showing me that my chance of recurrence would only go down by less than 2%. The weird thing for me is feeling like I'm not doing anything to fight this, when in...

Chemo decision week. Thoughts appreciated.

Hey guys. So, the Oncotype number came in. Basically, it was explained to me like this. My score was 24, and my chances of seeing Colon Cancer again in three years - according to this test - is 14% (Stage 2, T3). Because of other factors - low risk group - that skews down to 12%. With Chemo - with X...
