From cancer and a blog to a book

Hi everyone. Four years ago I started a blog right after I was diagnosed. This was the first place I shared it. And from time to time I would share posts that seemed to really resonate with the cancer community. And many of you read. The blog has really grown in its readership. Now, it will be the b...

Early success in RO688 trial

I am on the same clinical trial as Tim UK is on. It was because he shared his progress on that trial that I became aware of and pursued the same trial. And now, only a few weeks in, I'm having early positive responses -- disappearing liver mets, dramatic shrinkage. Below is a link to my blog post wi...

Re: Feeling scared about urgent pet scan

You should do HIPEC before chemo if possible. Chemo is not good at reaching things on the peritoneum. Scans can also miss peritoneal disease so surgery is best to really know what's going on. Ask about this. Good luck.

A Word to the New People (and the Old People)

I haven't been here for awhile. It's always a little shocking to see all the new names. I feel for those of you who are relatively recently diagnosed. I want to tell you all not to panic, that you have time. Many of us have been managing with active disease for a long time. I often think how I envy ...

Re: Opinions on HIPEC surgeons and what to expect post-surgery

I had HIPEC 3 years ago. A link to my blog post about hipec and the rest of my cancer experience was shared above. I would hesittte over sugarbaket just because he's old (although obviously he pioneered HIPEC). My HIPEC surgeon and others have told me you never want someone to operate on you who is ...

Blog post about hair loss

Hi all. I check in here once in a while. It always saddens me to see new names, although it also heartens me to see familiar names. At this point, mine is an old familiar name in the crc world I've been at this for 3.5 years and am currently on a clinical trial. I'm known for my brutally honest blog...

The Toll That Cancer Takes On Relationships

Hi, After dealing with this disease for almost 3 years and going through all the phases with more to come, I've come to hate, absolutely hate, the facades that cancer patients and their caregivers put up. There are images people like to put up (whether cancer related or not) that are blatant lies an...

What Happens When We Die?

Hi (especially to those who are new to colon cancer -- I'm sorry). While much of this and other forums are devoted to figuring out how to stay alive, I think it important to think about death, especially those of us facing Stage IV disease. Thinking about it seems like a non-choice, but it seems cle...

Gator Girl has done this and is now on Celebrex with Folfox. Maybe PM her and see what she says. I don't think she checks this forum much.

Re: Erbitux, 5FU - severe spreading skin issues

You should definitely go see a dermatologist. My dermatologist insists I use bactroban to prevent infections on the cuts. You may also need to take another oral antibiotic. Your skin is flaking because it's extremely dry. Again, my dermatologist says frequent application of aquaphor should help with...

Re: Question about recurrence

If your dad were to have a recurrence, it would likely not be in the colon. In truth, I don't really think recurrences produce symptoms, not unless the cancer has really invaded an organ. Lung mets don't have symptoms until it's bad. Peritoneal mets likewise. I don't think the liver does either. You...
