Re: RIP beautiful Cherie :(

Cherie fought so hard for her daughter and to preserve her family during her battle with this awful disease. She was a remarkable woman, spouse and mother, not always in that order. She worried about her daughter growing up without her, not about herself. She will be sorely missed. My deepest condol...

Re: what is a normal weight loss for CRC surgery and chemo?

Between surgery and chemo I lost 40 pounds and gained about 10 pounds back (I deliberately tried to keep the weight off). I finished chemo in May, 2011. Lois

Re: Awaiting Colonospy Date Scared

Hi, There are really lots of reasons our there for your symptoms besides colon cancer, so I it is REALLY good that you are getting scoped soon. Please let us know how it goes. One suggestion is that you follow the prep instructions to the letter if at all possible. The better the prep the better the...

I was (am I guess) stage 2A but my medullary tumor type is very rare (1 out of 10,000 CC tumors) so after my resection I did FOLFOX, 8 rounds with OXI and the other 4 without. My standard of treatment was a yearly scan for the four following years after diagnosis, quarterly blood work and CEA for tw...

Re: polyp too large and malignant?

First, good GI's usually know visually when a polyp is cancerous but it will be submitted for a biopsy and those results will give you the definitive answer. Second, there is always the possibility that they can miss a polyp during a colonoscopy. Sometimes the prep is not as thorough as it could be ...

Re: Questions to ask genetic counselor

My genetic counselor would have strongly encouraged genetic testing with the unknown family history. That is a major factor. Good luck with your appointment. Lois

Re: Lynch Syndrome, awful symptoms, worried!

Knowing you have Lynch will enable you to get the regular screening you need starting early in your life without having to fight the normal battles of "your are too young to need a colonoscopy". You should be having a session with a genetic counselor to make sure you understand the ramific...

Re: Shingles question

I got the shot at age 60; I had finished chemo about two years earlier but even to this day (I will be 63 next week) my WBC runs low and I am assumed to be somewhat immune compromised. I was still encouraged to get the shot since it is about 50% effective in preventing shingles, but if you get shing...

Re: Colonoscopy next week..canceled previous two

My husband has had ulcerative colitis since he was 20 (he is now 65). I got colon cancer in 2010. All of the GI docs my husband has seen over the years attribute the fact that he has never been hospitalized for his UC (after the initial diagnosis) to getting a colonoscopy every two years. I had my i...

Re: Neupogen Back-To-Back Days

I had only one neupogen shot during each FOLFOX cycle and it was the day before my next infusion. Never had low neutrophils again after they started doing that. I would ask why they are not giving the shots closer to her next injection. It is my understanding that with Neulasta they give it after th...

Re: I'm panicking. Point me in the right direction please.

Please get another colonoscopy pronto. The fact that you had "some polyps" five years ago, is plenty of justification for another scope now, especially with your symptoms. Vilca's advise is excellent. I have a lot of problems getting a good prep before a scope and it does make a difference...

Re: Blood from my rectum/bloody stools - father diagnosed with colon cancer at 44

You definitely should get a colonoscopy as soon as possible. It is the only way to be sure o things and with your family history you are definitely due. You should have been eligible for one by current guidelines at age 34 or 35 at the latest. Get that scope and get back to the forum to let us know ...
