Re: Radiation and pain

Hubby has completed 25 of 28 treatments. He begins his target radiation tomorrow. He also has pains in his pelvic area that he says feel like a crampy, pinching feeling. They're not constant, but when they hit they will often make him double over for a second. Seems like they're always worse a few h...

Re: More confused after MD Anderson eval than before....

Jaynee. Thank you so much for taking the time to give me a better explanation. I swear...I have always considered myself (and my hubby) to be intelligent, capable and on the ball. Right now we're both feeling like two ding dongs floating without a raft. There's just so much to try to comprehend and ...

Re: More confused after MD Anderson eval than before....

Well, even after seeing the new, local medical oncologist AND meeting with the radiation oncologist AND reading everything on here, I am still confused about staging. The local oncologist (who we have decided to go with instead of MD Anderson) says that all of the results thus far indicate this is T...

Re: MD Anderson/TX, simple lodging, maybe the church....

We ended up able to relocate to the Crowne Plaza Medical Center for our last few days in Houston. Minutes from Anderson and they have a shuttle that drops off and picks up several times each day. I have to say that the service at Crowne Plaza was top notch. It's older and maybe not as perfect as som...

Re: More confused after MD Anderson eval than before....

Thanks so much for all of the answers you've given. I swear, I truly do learn more on here than I do from the care team! Part of that is because I don't think of the questions until after we're back home, so not necessarily the fault of anyone other than me! His tumor is located about 6 inches into ...

Re: More confused after MD Anderson eval than before....

As always I learn more every time I come on here! Thanks so much! No, I didn't know T2/T3 were different than stage 2 or 3! That gives me a little peace knowing the difference! Geez! There should be a manual that comes with a cancer diagnosis, shouldn't there? From what they were able to see on the ...

More confused after MD Anderson eval than before....

Just returned home from our first visit and evaluation at MD Anderson for rectal cancer. I have to say I am more confused now than before we went. They repeated the CT of the abd/pelvis and chest that my hubby had already done at home. Also added and MRI, flex sig and ultimately a special ultra soun...

Ahhhhhhhh. Thank you! I am finding that the more I try to learn, read and know the more worried and freaked out I become. What you say makes perfect sense!!!

Re: MD Anderson/TX, simple lodging, maybe the church....

We are being seen at Anderson right now, arrived this last Monday. There is an oil technology conference going on this week which has brought over 100,000 extra people into the down town area. We were able to get a room at the Hampton Inn on I-10/Energy Corridor. However, ALL of the hotels anywhere ...

Re: Mom vs. rectal cancer (T3N1): An ongoing journal

Hi there. I'm new, too and currently going thru all of the same emotions, reactions and guilt you're experiencing. In my case, it's my husband who has been diagnosed. Like you, we don't have any staging yet and his reason for having the colonoscopy was weight loss and blood in his stools. Apparently...

Re: New diagnosis...scared doesn't begin to cover it....

Sounds like my husband shares many personality traits with you, Rob! I wish he would try an anti depressant, or even just the Xanax for right now. He won't admit to having any depression or worry so he won't even consider it right now. Maybe he will do as you did and realize at some point soon that ...

Re: New diagnosis...scared doesn't begin to cover it....

Thank you, Rob in PA and Gunivere! That's exactly why I have kept a smile on my face and made sure he knows that my boxing gloves are on and when he is feeling too low to kick butt, I will be there to do it for him. Family members are telling me that I need to tell him how scared I am and that it's ...

Re: New diagnosis...scared doesn't begin to cover it....

Seems like I just keep saying, "Thank you!" but I sincerely mean it.....The advice, experiences, suggestions and input coming from those who have walked this path ahead of us is so invaluable. I feel like I'm getting my own anxieties under control due to a better understanding of what we'r...

Thanks so much for sharing this! With hubby's brand new diagnosis I have referred to your post a few times now in order to understand what is being said to me! Really appreciate it!

Re: New diagnosis...scared doesn't begin to cover it....

I so appreciate the experiences and knowledge shared! I handle things so much better when I feel like I know what to expect. Since we don't have a lot of extended family close by it also helps having an idea of how we can best utilize the offers of help that we do have right now. Several of my famil...
