Re: 8 rounds of chemo... enough?

The studies Skypup referred to might be the ones by Dr. Jeffrey Meyerhardt from Dana-Farber in Boston. I don't have the links saved on this computer, but it's worth it (especially since you're stage III) to find and read his work. There has also been some interesting work done by Dr. William Li, of ...

Re: Our beloved Ashlee has passed

It's awful Ashlee/Judy left this world way too soon, and had to go through so many surgeries, procedures, treatments and complications over the years before reaching a place of no pain.
Her messages here will help people for years to come; at least that thought brings comfort.

Re: Ashlee update

Ashlee is one of those posters who has really helped shape the character of this board -- she's always been forthright and helpful with reliably accurate info and never any unproven woo-woo. Though I of course wish she weren't at this point, I am glad to hear she is apparently pain-free and is at ho...

Re: My Scotty Boy has flown away ....

Dear DeAnn, Your words made me cry with both sadness and frustration at the cruel twists and illnesses life deals some of the nicest people, but also with happiness that you were able to have some wonderful things happen during those last days together, from the successful confirmation party to dear...

Re: Stage 4 Survivors - Can you update us on your progress

Hi, I was diagnosed St. IV in 2007 and am still here. Was outside watering flowers earlier today, but spent the weekend in hospital with severe pain from constipation  . That sentence pretty much sums it up -- there's a new normal and scanxiety every three months or so, my body's kinda screwed...

Re: Any Good Rice Recipes?

I read your post yesterday morning, and then an hour later in the doc's waiting room, I started idly leafing through a copy of Real Simple magazine. The third page I looked at was a page of easy rice recipes! Hooray for the internet, because tonight I found the three recipes, and they look very unco...

Re: WATER FOR CT PREP

For my scan today I had the usual two bottles of Readi-Cat, the white stuff that's pretty easy to drink. First one at 7:05, second at 7:55, scan at 8:40. While going through the intake process, I asked the intake woman (who's worked there a long time and knows what's going on) about whether they eve...

Re: Concerned and scared...

I was reminded that the body gives hints that something is wrong and any changes that don't go away on their own should be investigated after seven, or at the MOST 14 days. 74Bravo, you are having to wait far, far longer than 7 - 14 days!! Time to be a squeaky wheel. Given all the symptoms you've d...

I hope you win, Ann. I just cast a vote and you're ahead by 12! Apples and Twinkies is a delight and the pics make me want to make everything, or at least knock on your door and ask for leftovers! Re: Scan Batting Average - Week 50

Well, I had a CT scan on the 16th but was too scanxiety-riddled to post. It had been a 4 month interval, rather than 3. Saw the oncologist yesterday and he said the only things still showing are a few calcified enlarged abdominal lymph nodes. :D :D :D He isn't too concerned that my CEA has been elev...

Re: Feeling REALLY sad

Hi Elissa, I'm another stage IV'er (with perineural invasion) who's "living with cancer", fairly normally a few years after diagnosis. Maybe I'll need to go back on chemo or have surgery after my next CT scan in December, but for now, I feel good and am not taking any medications. The firs...

Re: eye opener for stage 4'ers

Kathryn, please include yourself in the better survival outlook!! That FOLFIRI you're taking, along with all the other newer treatments available, can work wonders. :D I just looked at the entire MD Anderson study, and it was based on 2,470 patients who presented with metastatic colorectal cancer, b...

Here's a link to the article about MD Anderson's 2009 study (not to the actual study) http://www.mdanderson.org/newsroom/cancer-newsline/past-episodes/metastatic-colon-cancer-survival-jumps-dramatically-almost-a-third-of-patients-may-live-five-years.html My onc didn't know about these newer stats th...

Re: Nutrition/Lifestyle Changes

Hi, A friend brought me fresh green smoothies during chemo to help me stay hydrated, and because they tasted so good, I was spurred on and changed gradually to a diet that's mostly fresh, organic, uncooked fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds. I did that while on chemo (and while I was on coumadin, wh...
