Update on Jim

Hi Everyone, This is Jim's wife. He asked me to make this posting on his behalf. Jim passed away yesterday, peacefully and surrounded by his family. I know that you all know how hard he worked at understanding his disease and the treatment options available. He never once hesitated to go forward and...

Well, I failed out of the perifosine trial...

My first scan showed disease progression, so I am now disqualified from continuing in the trial. On top of that I have been to the emergency room three times in the in the last 2 weeks. The first time I was vomitting cups of blood. The cause of that was esophageal vericies, caused by portal vein pre...

Re: Folfox round #45 underway......I'm so happy....

Not to brag, but I believe I went well into the 50 tx range before FOLFOX lost it's effectiveness. It has kept me alive another 3 years beyond what they thought possible. Keep up the good work and I hope it keeps working for you for many more tratments.

Completed first week of phase III Perifosine trial

Not much to report, it has been pretty uneventful. The Perifosine/placebo is given in combination with Xeloda. I was told to stock up on Immodium and to expect the runs. As is typical for me, I had just the opposite reaction and had constipation. So a little Miralax every day and I am good to go. At...

Re: Lung Surgery: BB's 10-Week Report

BB, just so you know you are not alone, I too have that numbness being replaced by pain in my rib cage. A good sneeze makes me wince with a second of pain. Glad you are feeling better.

Re: Wondering how others did on Perifosene trial.

I am meeting with an Onc from Smillow Cancer Hospital at Yale tommorrow, regarding this trial. I hopefully will be starting the trial very soon. I will post an update as I go along. Here's hoping I get the actual drug and not the placebo.

Re: CEA Dropping

Down is always better than up. I have gone from 3500 at DX, down to 2 after liver resection, then back to 485 not too long ago. Last one was trending down again at around 300. Quite the rollercoaster ride. My Onc never wants me to get to fixated on that number though, he relies much more on the scan...

Re: MSKCC surgon

I haven't used him as a surgeon, but I have had lung surgery and met an Oncologist at MSKCC. I have found the doctors there to be the most confident and concise group I have had contact with. They are clearly a step above what I have locally. I am sure you are in very good hands.

Re: Stage 4 Colon Cancer

Don't give up hope. I was diagnosed 4 years ago stage IV. I am by no means cured, but with surgeries , radiations and chemo, I am stil here 4 years later. Keep fighting and look for multiple solutions. They are out there.

Okay... I have finally picked my clinical trial

I will be enrolling in clinical trial NCT01097018, off the National Cancer Institue database. After meeting with my oncologist at MSKCC, he highly recommended this one for some one in my shoes. This one requires me to be onsite only 1 day every 3 weeks, so it is very doable. The current closest loca...

Re: I've seen Dr P at Sloan

What a small world, I was there yesterday as well to investigate clinical trials. I see Dr. Chung who I think is quite brilliant. He gave me alot of good information and pointed me to a clinical trial I should try. I was there from about 1:00pm till 2:15. What time were you all there ?

Re: Chest Tubes

I had a really good experience with the chest tube. I was only in the hospital 2 nights after me resections. Fuid was clear after 2 days so they yanked it, and that was painless. Of course I was taking my favorite pain reliever Dilaudid at the time.

Re: Off to NY again

Ann, it sounds like you don't want invasive surgery, but I just wanted to share my experience with my surgeon at Sloan. I was told I was inoperable by my local thoracic surgeon, I had 3 mets on my right side in various lobes. I met the surgeon at Sloan and he thought my case was very routine. He cou...
