Re: Recovering from abscesses?

Nick, thanks again for the response. I'm really glad to hear it worked out well for you. Dad did have the surgery, it ended up being a colostomy rather than an ileostomy. How long did it take after the surgery before you went off pain meds and could get around more or less normally? My dad had the ...

Need advice- healing after surgery

I'm hoping to get some ideas on how long it will take to feel any better after surgery please! My BF had his rectal tumor removed on the 25th of March. He also got a permanent colostomy. It's been over three weeks now. He still feels pain around the right side of his belly where the inscision was do...

Re: Difficult time

As a newbie to this club, I am so grateful for every post that has been written. I get so scared trying to figure out what's going on, is this normal, and where can I find help?? I've searched these boards trying to figure where our path is on this journey. Just knowing that someone has been here be...

Re: Trying to sleep but leaking keeps him up

Rob - in another thread she has posted that he just finished chemo/rad. The tumor has shrunk and they are hoping to schedule surgery soon. A colostomy will take care of this issue after surgery. Yes, that's correct. I was just wondering if there was anything that would make him more comfortable unt...

Re: Lost appetite...losing hope

He has a big tumor that is in the lower rectum. They told us they could not do surgery because it had roots growing out to his pelvis. Lizzy Hi Lizzy, Based on above comment, getting a 2nd opinion may not be a bad idea.. Where are you? I went local for my treatments, but I did do a phone 2nd opinio...

Trying to sleep but leaking keeps him up

My boyfriend is miserable with this constant leaking he is dealing with. It's either poop or mucus and it happens all the time. I can't say that I've seen him go longer than an hour and a half without something leaking out of him. He never gets any good sleep. Does anyone have any suggestions on how...

Re: Question for today: did it shrink???

Yeah!!! Finally visible proof it has shrunk!! The rad dr showed us the scan from top to bottom. Heart, lungs, liver, gall bladder are all clear. The tumor shows evidence of being smaller and he said he could see parts of it had died/are dying. Tomorrow we talk to the surgeon. The next step will be r...

Question for today: did it shrink???

After five weeks of chemo and rad, three weeks of rest, today we go in for a CT Scan. We will hit the rad doctors office a few hours later and they will tell us how much the tumor has shrunk. Tomorrow the surgeon is going to call to let us know when he wants to do surgery. My boyfriend is scared tha...

Re: Two radiation treatments in one day?

It's good to hear that others have had two treatments in one day. My boyfriend was worried that it was unusual. Thanks!

Two radiation treatments in one day?

I was wondering if anyone else had two radiation treatments in one day? We missed our second to the last one because of snow and they gave my BF two treatments on the final day, about 5 1/2 hours apart.

I was wondering if that's part of why he has such pain, pooping razor blades...

Thanks,
Lizzy

Re: Retirement adventure planned – looking for activities

If you have a GPS I would get out and go geocaching. We have been able to do that for awhile since my boyfriend got sick. We really enjoyed it. Geocaching.com It's treasure hunting with your gps device! You can find them everywhere! In town and out hiking. I want to try to find one in every state. I...

Lost appetite...losing hope

This is getting scary. My boyfriend (he's 61) had his last radiation treatment the 22nd of feb. the chemo was over too. We were told that after a week he would start feeling a little better. Then we were told two weeks. We're now starting the third week and there doesn't seem to be any improvement. ...
