Re: Is this blood on my stool?

If you eat red peppers everyday it's highly likely that's the problem...You could stop eating red things for a few days and see if red still shows up.

Re: Xeloda or 5fu only for adjuvant chemotherapy?

I’m really struggling with making a decision on adjuvant chemotherapy, I’m 43 with Stage 1 rectal cancer (T2 tumor) did Xeloda/radiation for 6 weeks prior to surgery to shrink tumor it went down about 50 % and pathology showed clear margins T2 tumor removed and 30 lymph nodes clean. Oncologist is r...

Re: Chemo treatment for rectal cancer

I did XelOx (Xeloda and Oxaliplatin)...only 6 cycles as my onc gave me credit for the chemo I had during chemorad. I chose Thursdays for the Oxaliplatin. I found that worked really well for me. I was basically at the infusion center all day Thursday. I got the cold sensitivity thing before they even...

Re: For Stage III's: NED for how long now?

Been meaning to post a new thread on my journey, but haven't got there yet...I still will, although there's some additional things in the works before I want to end this chapter. Anyways...I just had my last follow-up 5 years from Dx. I had a CT, MRI, and Colonoscopy. Scope Findings: There was an in...

Re: Best Practices in Patient Communication - Patient Access to Reports

Similar here at Stanford in the Bay Area. Docs have to see the report and release it before patients can put eyes on it via MyChart. Some doc may feel comfortable releasing unremarkable reports right away, but if they're bad I think more often than not they will hold them till a follow-up. They tend...

Camera Where the Sun Don't Shine

Well another year another surveillance scope in the bag. So now I have had two scopes in a row clean, so that's pretty awesome. Scope scoreboard Scope #1: F--k a tumor Scope #2: Tumor is still there and can't examine rest of colon for synchronous tumors Scope #2.5: A virtual the day after scope #2 t...

Re: My LAR experience

Sounds like everything is going well congrats I had the surgery done laparoscopic but have a 6 inch incision near my pubic hair line. I pretty sure this is standard. Laparoscopic ports are between 1/2" -1", so there's no way they'd be able to pass the resection through them. So they need t...

Re: CT & MRI

It's my understanding that MRI can look at soft tissue a little better. But I'm pretty sure contrast CTs can find enlarged lympnodes, Lung things and liver lesions. I'm getting twice a year MRIs and annual CTs. Just had an MRI last week. Mine get approved due to the amount of radiation I've endured ...

Re: Insurance . . . adding insult to injury

I've hit my out of pocket max every year since I was diagnosed So I'm in for about $15000 of costs since 2012 not including Xeloda prescriptions and other incidentals. Looking like another $4000 this year (two MRIs, a CT, and a colonoscopy are expensive). I'm pretty sure my co-pays were included in ...

Re: CT Scan Results (good) but Oncologist Rant

I'd be pissed as well. Wish I had more to say about a lucency in a facet joint. Facet joints are in the spine. One thing that would be helpful would be to know what level of the spine it's at. With that said, you said it's from the chest CT with like means it's in the Thoracic spine which is a long ...

Re: Severe Constipation After Colectomy Please Help

Miralax (over the counter) was my friend during Chemo, which stopped me up good. My BM the day after chemo was like giving birth to a telephone pole  . I also used docusate sodium (aka colace). I was pretty much on max dosage the first week or so of each chemo cycle and I would do miralax the ...

Re: Forum observation

I suppose one way to read it. Another way to read it is that those of us with more advanced staged cancers are glad that those with lower stage cancers don't have to go through what that bad things that more advanced stage cancers patients have to go through. It's not said to belittle ones experienc...

Re: Stage 3 no surgery?

How far in is your tumor. Mine was 10-15 cm in and it was removed and I was plugged back together without getting a ileo. I left the hospital with food exiting in the same place as went I got to the hospital. Key is finding a solid surgeon. Not sure I'd chance it without surgery, but I had a couple ...
