Re: 4 days post-op Subtotal Colectomy

Mike was discharged from UW yesterday, but we ended up in the ER last night. He's doing better than he was last night, apparently his small intestine decided to shut down. Most likely due to the oral pain medication. He's on IV fluids and Tylenol for now and they are allowing him to drink a bit of w...

Re: 27 years old and just diagnosed

Jordan My husband was diagnosed at age 37 and is now in the hospital recovering from a prophylactic subtotal colectomy. He is strong and has the most amazing upbeat attitude. I'm sorry you are dealing with this. It's crappy and there are good days and bad days, but somehow you get through it. There ...

4 days post-op Subtotal Colectomy

My husband had a subtotal colectomy on Friday. For the last day and a half there has been talk of him getting to go home. However, when he started soft food (cream of wheat) yesterday morning he went 12 hours without a BM. Then at 2:45AM there was blood in his stool. He also has a red swollen area a...

Re: Prophylactic subtotal colectomy after right semi-colecto

The biggest issue for Mike stems from a polyp that was removed from the left side of his colon in June 2010 at the same time the cancer tumor was discovered on the right side. Because the surgeon had just removed the polyp he was unable later to find the location again in order to keep a better eye ...

Prophylactic subtotal colectomy after right semi-colectomy

My husband is scheduled to have a subtotal colectomy in early December. In July 2010 he had a right semi-colectomy, but after much research, discussion, etc. it has been decided that a subtotal colectomy is in his best interest as he also has Lynch Syndrome. Has anyone else gone from a semi-colectom...

Re: Shocked filling out the form for genetic counseling ...

The whole genetic thing is just crazy. When my husband was dx with CC in June last year at age 37 we were automatically sent to a GC because of his age. With no clear family history and not meeting the Amsterdam criteria, our GC didn't think there would be a genetic link. Six months later it was fin...

Re: Lynch syndrome

My husband has been diagnosed with Lynch as well. He had a right hemicolectomy last July and Lynch was finally confirmed in January. It's a roller coaster to say the least. Right now we are trying to convince his parents and siblings to get tested, but they are continuing to list all the reasons why...

Re: Hereditary Cancer/ Lynch Syndrome

We pretty much knew it was coming, but yesterday we were told flat out that my husband has Lynch (MSH2), although at this point Mayo and Quest are both doing more testing to deterimine if it is exon 7 or exon 8 that is involved. One lab showed 7 deletion and the other lab showed duplication of 8. We...

Mutant Mutations with Lynch

We just received results that indicate my husband has Lynch. However, the specific mutations are very rare. The MSH2 and MSH6 genes are involved, but apparently the "typical" mutation is not what was found. Now another round of testing will be done to be sure this isn't a false positive. W...

Re: Questions About Lynch Syndrome (HNPCC)

Lisa, I'm sorry I don't have information for you, but my husband and I are going to talk to the genetic counselor next Wednesday. My husband was diagonosed with CC on June 25 and had a right hemi colectomy on July 12. He also had a polyp removed on June 25, which came back positive. So he had two ca...

Anyone ever have chemo after Stage 1 diagnosis?

Quick version: My husband is 37. On June 25 had a colonoscopy confirming he had colon cancer (right ascending). There was also a polyp removed from the sigmoid, which also turned out to be cancerous. July 12 right hemicolectomy and 30 nodes removed. Pathology reported tumor was T1 with all 30 nodes ...

Re: 27 Year old recently diagnosed

I just found this post and don't feel quite so alone in all the confusion. My husband is 37 & had a right hemicolectomy last Monday. Pathology reports came back more positive than what surgeon & oncologists thought based on scope, Xrays & CT. That said, we're also dealing with chemo vs n...
