Re: What are the BEST liver directed treatments for stage 4 CC?

As our family's own guide through early decisions, friend and all-around earth angel So-scared wrote you, the team at Memorial Sloan Kettering "MSK", led by oncologist Nancy Kemeny is the only center with the experience and high volume case load of "unresectable" patients who bec...

Re: Jesse, Mariane, DH to Kandj

I think it's already been suggested that there are different levels of detail in path reports.None of them are posted. There may be the operating room study, there will be a lab report post surgery and MSK conducts extensive genetic analysis ( up to the extent of your insurance coverage). All those ...

Re: Wives of husbands with Stage IV Colon Freaking Cancer

Hi Angela. . Of course this drumbeat of threats is horrifying and wears us caregivers down along with all that positive energy we try to generate. BUT. Let me share 3 things we have learned that suggest what is going on with your DH is not a doomsday scenario. 1 cancer is associated with a much high...

Re: Glycerol in HAI pump - not at MSKCC

While our local onc found one local chemo center (not his own at a major local hospital!) that will service DH's HAI pump between MSK visits every 4 weeks, they are not able or willing to fill the glycerol RX to MSK specifications. He can grin and bear it since we are in DC and MSK Is a train ride. ...

Re: Prep for and Lots of Surgery at once

You mention three procedures in one surgery - Isn't the plan to install the pump and let it infuse the liver with FUDR until the mets shrink to resectable size? If that routine is your option, then that's one surgery alone. A longer surgery would later resect remnants of both the liver and primary t...

Re: Prep for Dr. Kemeny consult

I'm torn between the pressure to say "it's whatever you are ultimately comfortable with" as many have and option 2 : telling you how Dr. K and her pump saved my "non-resectable" DH's life. We were lucky our local onc ( In DC) knew her work and helped us get in her door when every...

Re: Surgery or no?

I am so so sorry you are facing these choices! Somehow ..'bad anatomy' seems as outrageously unfair as the cancer appearing at all. Isn't a big part of the answer to the question of whether to keep exploring the options about peace of mind that you have done and learned every possible thing to fight...

Re: Newbie - questions?

So sorry you have to join our club ...which you wi find to be full of sympathetic and supportive fellow travellers and their families. You need a medical oncologist as well as a specialized surgeon. In many cases surgery is not the recommended first treatment step but, rather, follows chemo and radi...

Re: Just diagnosed with colon cancer...Need help finding a surgeon in Northern VA

Hello and sympathies... we live near you. I do have very definite advice for once and The generic advice I think most important is that you need a colorectal cancer TEAM, not a just surgeon. That means you need a top-notch center that has G/I oncologists, surgeons, radiologists and other related spe...

Re: Newbie here, I need encouragement, so bummed

Susie, it seems you "only" have mets in the liver. Look up HAI pump treatment entries on this forum . even the past 2 weeks are full of them. Then before you try any other chemo, get you docs to send your paperwork to dr kemeny at Memorial sloan Kettering in nyc (a 90 min. train ride from ...

Re: HAI Pump to resection ?'s

DH is a patient in the same practice. I think we also saw Dr. DiM. after the 3rd pump treatment and the conversation was whether to have another HAI pump fill and what other conditions had to be addressed before surgery. .which occurred a little less than 2 months later. my DH's liver mets were larg...

Re: Options for inoperable stage iv Rc with liver mets???

I know you have already taken the advice we would offer:see dr kemeny. The verdict you quoted from your original doctor was pretty much verbatim what my DH heard from respected local surgeons on dec 23 2012. Reading it made me feel the psychic scar. Our onc.helped us get to Kemeny quick. By August 2...
