Re: Our beloved Skypuppy

I've been in shock............unable to post. Of all people, I though Theresa would make it -- through sheer grit and determination. After reading her obit -- what a life well-lived! I've missed her presence on the board for a LONG time. Now to know that she is gone.................. Skypuppy, I'm s...

Re: CEA increasing without any cancer detection

OK, here's the deal. I had multiple (4 or 5 or 6) "clean" CTs even though my CEA was rising. My onc finally ordered a PET scan. It showed ONLY one small area of uptake. Surgery was ordered. Imagine the surgeon's surprise when he found EIGHT tumors of significant size all over the place! He...

Re: average cancer cell cycle duration

The search words you use make a difference in what you find. I found the most info using "colon cancer doubling rate". Here is one that might help:

Re: Do I need to shut up?

NO, Nik, you do not need to shut up!!!!

You greet the newbies, give encouragment to those in the trenches, are always kind and compassionate, and say what a lot of us are thinking/feeling. IMHO, you are a very valuable member of this group!

So, keep on keeping on! :D

Re: Advice Needed in re SSDI Medical Exam

testing765, I have no experience with SSDI doctors. I have heard both good and bad -- some excellent, thorough doctors.............some indifferent, quackish. I think that your experience largely depends on your state. Nik, I hear you. (((HUGS))) I was denied the first time for a LISTED condition (n...

I take Cymbalta for nerve pain. I cannot attest to how well it works on depression.

Re: Tas-102 and CEA

I have been loathe to post because I didn't want anyone to worry more than usual about themselves. I have had completely clear CTs (with and without contrast) since my initial surgery 12/12. However, my CEA never dropped below 8 after resection and continued to rise slowly. Jump forward to this year...

Re: Cymbalta duloxetine

I'm taking it. Started out with 20 mg per day about a month and a half ago -- now up to 50 mg. SMART doc wanted me to start off slowly just in case I had a reaction. The ONLY side effect I've had is a slight loss of appetite. I take the Cymbalta at night because it does make me a little drowsy. Trie...

There is a person there who either works for or has worked for Social Security. He/she can help you understand/give you solid advice. If you want the person's "name", give me a PM.

Re: Husband recently diagnosed--questions

Normal CEA is good -- probably outweighs the poorly differentiated. Here is a website where you can "play" with the numbers: https://www.mskcc.org/nomograms/colorectal This is from Memorial Sloan Kettering, so you can trust what you see. Sometimes I read what doctors have told patients abo...

Re: Feeling Worried

Grace, I'm not a doctor or nurse or medical professional. From your description of symptoms, I think that it is far more likely that you have a partial bowel obstruction, an ovarian cyst/tumor, or something like Crohn's disease. It could even be IBS-C. That said, you NEED to find out for sure!! A co...

Re: Hernia Repair Surgery - I want the Good, the Bad and the Ugly please

I had an abdominal met removed last summer. It went deep enough that I basically had a hernia repair -- actually, mesh was installed to KEEP me from getting a hernia. My incision is about 8" to 9" long, directly over my resection. Surgery went well. It was supposed to be outpatient, but I ...

Re: I feel I should explain my current emotions

Nik, are you by any chance taking steroids - like prednisone or dexamethasone? Steroids are commonly prescribed with chemotherapy. Steroids can save your life, but make you miserable. They tend to really mess with your emotions -- especially if you take them for long periods of time. Here is a link ...

Re: Home

AWESOME!! Amazing that you are already home. Hope they gave you a script for stool softeners (colace). As your system "reboots", prepare for possible multiple small BMs per day. From what I've read, this is normal -- mine lasted for a couple of weeks, I think. Some people have trouble eati...
