Re: Medical Oncologist appointment January 12th

Good luck. Perhaps folks can weigh in on what to expect and what to bring? I suggest bringing a pen and a notebook - one where you record notes from all appointments, and a folder to collect the papers they give you. I suggest you bring a friend or family member who can listen with you and help you ...

Re: Tumor was at rectosigmoid junction

Me again. That seems long to wait. I'm sorry. As for my story not making sense... Yes, I asked that very question, and here is the answer I got. Radiation later is not the gold standard, but with a tumor in the junction, due to idiosyncratic features about anatomy, rectal or colon isn't always obvio...

Re: Tumor was at rectosigmoid junction

Sometimes autocorrect is right, but not how we think. Resected gut. Not respected gut, altough respect may be an understatement after four years of having his gut be such a high priority in our life.

Bye for now.

Re: Tumor was at rectosigmoid junction

Hi friends. Normally just lurking, but saw this, which was my husband's situation so I am posting... Hi there. Sorry for the news. I general, rectal and radiation go together, colon doesn't get radiation. If possible, they like to do the radiation first. Doesn't always work out that way if lymph inv...

Re: Clinical Trial - Round #4

So the treatment was far from a joy and a delight, but compared to the earlier rounds, this was uneventful. That is good, I guess. I hope the fever passes soon, unless it is a cancer-killing fever, in which case I wish you something else. For what it is worth, Belle, Chris has little memory of many ...

Re: Advice needed - chemo refused by dad

I'm sorry about your dad. I suggest that you give him a few days to get his head around his situation. Chemo terrifies people. It is very scary, but there are a lot of people out there living very full lives post-chemo. My husband is one of them. Also, the standard colon cancer chemo he would most l...

Re: Sad when the doctor's staff don't get it

I would not be able to handle that.

My husband's nurse emailed the good scan news 90 minutes after the scan was finished. THAT is clearly better service than we could ever hope for, but somewhere between 90 minutes and never is the right answer.

Belle, Julie, Chrissy and Laurettas --

I am starting my day with tears in my eyes -- good tears. What loving posts those are!

(And yes, Belle, I do wish we lived closer, or that I could get out West.)

Re: Four years out (almost) -- thoughts on caregiving and th

Thanks, Julie. I am valued and appreciated. If I sound a bit down on my husband, that means I wasn't so clear. He was really struggling for a lot of years, and I did what needed to be done to keep us going, get his health back, and have no regrets. I am just acknowledging that there were costs to th...

Four years out (almost) -- thoughts on caregiving and thanks

Scan is boring and CEA is <.6 I don't post much anymore but am here today to give all of you a most heartfelt round of thanks. My husband and I...

Re: I Say "Stable" She Reads "Clear"

Yeah, I got this kind of thing all the time regarding my husband -- mostly from older folks at shul. It was harder when I was the main "communicator" for another congregant whose husband was terminal. A good scan meant "no new tumors that need surgery within two weeks" and everyo...

Re: Share what you learned at therapy thread..spouse of canc

What did I learn in therapy... Where to begin. 1. A good therapist is like a gift from god. A bad therapist is... I dont even have words. There are good and bad therapists, and good therapists who are bad matches. Take stock, and potentially start again with someone new. 2. I am eternally grateful t...

Re: Dry Eye Issues

All, I want to note the following. Not everyone on the planet is sensitive to the preservatives in the drops. Many people are -- I seem to have a number like 20% in my head, but I have no citation or memory as to why I think 20% If you are, then by all means, don't use drops with preservatives. Howe...
