Re: Neurontin/gabapentin for CIPN

Yes. It's helped me immensely. I take 500mg 3x/day. I definitely recommend it. I haven't noticed any side effects, been on it since I stopped chemo almost 7(?) years ago.

Re: Chemo & Radiation BEFORE 1st Surgery - What to Expect?

My 2 cents: Lotion - Cetaphil or Cerave, lotion up as soon as his session is over, put it everywhere in the radiation field, and I mean EVERYWHERE, crack included, I did this in the dressing room right after the radiation session before going back to work Cetaphil soap - you need something mild to w...

Re: New here - rectal cancer, very nervous about radiation

I think most people have said a lot of what I'd say to you, but I'll add my 2 cents anyway. Coming from someone who was stage IIIC in 2012. My personal feeling, I wanted to do whatever I had to do to be alive for my daughter. Statistics mean nothing, you don't know which group your going to be in, w...

Re: Newly diagnosed and questions

The very 3 weeks is a fairly normal schedule for Xelox (Xeloda pills +the nasty Oxaliplatin). I did it, originally scheduled for 6, but we didn't do the 6th Oxali due to a bad reaction on the 5th infusion, 6th round was Xeloda only. I was only scheduled for 6 because I did Xeloda with Radiation prio...

Re: Neuropathy improvement: individual experience

I'm coming up on 6 years out from my last Oxi infusion. I'd say it took maybe 9 months to even out and get to the point I'm out now. I only did 5 infusions in the vein that included Oxi and I've definitely got it in my feet. Most everything in my fingers/hands went away fairly quickly and my feet re...

Re: Clustering advice

Fiber and time. With the fiber it's going to be hard to find a balance right now if you're just out from radiation as each day/week will start getting better. Not sure where you are in your treatment (haven't been on the board in a long time and I know treatment plans can vary). Large amounts of fib...

Re: working/traveling during radiation (?)

Working is very possible, depending on how he tolerates radiation. I worked every day, walked across the street for radiation and came right back. The only issue I can see with traveling would be how far into the radiation treatment would this trip be, if it's toward the end, the urgency (and the pa...

Re: Vaginal stenosis - an issue for women with rectal cancer

I have to use Premarin every night with the exception of when I use Vagafam (Yuvafem generic) pills which are 3x/week. Even at this, sex sucks. My gyno just suggested a laser treatment, she just got this laser and says that it's helped some of her post cancer/radiation patients. I'm seriously consid...

Re: Taste Change Advice

I agree that things are going to probably change from day to day and/or infusion to infusion. At times, I couldn't even stand the taste of water, I tried different bottled waters trying to find ones that tastes "less worse" than others. One thing that I could eat that helped me keep down o...

Haha and I work at McDonalds (well used to cannot do my physical role anymore) so know what you mean. There is something appealing about eating junk food when we know it is not a healthy diet. Steve PS-I had better add that my McDonalds is one of the best places to work! True! With a great team tha...

Re: Using a vaginal dilator after radiation

Go see a really good gynecologist about your options. Are you using any vaginal pills and creams? You should be using those with the dilators. Also, they make ones that you keep in the refrigerator called "cool cones", it's supposed to feel better. Personally, I didn't use those, but I can...

Marc (GilletteMan) - I feel terrible reading your post and laughing, it's so sad that it's funny because I vividly remember it just as you've described, (minus the Penis issues, I've got the opposite :D BUTT believe me, the shit that radiation does to a woman is no day at the beach either, like a fl...

Re: Losing the will to live

First, I want to say I'm so sorry for what you are going through. I hope this doesn't come out wrong, but I'm not sure I'd want my mom to be on Xelox at her age. It's absolutely rough and I was 40. The thought of going through it at an older age is terrifying. The chemo is absolute hell in so many w...

Re: Better news, Neuropathy & questions

Spot on Liver/Hemangioma: I also had a spot on my liver that they wanted to "watch" it was really hard to wait through chemo/radiation to see if the spot changed so that they could rule out a met - turned out to be a hemangioma (no idea how to spell that right). Basically, they're watching...
