11 year stage IV cancerversary

Hi all, I haven't posted in awhile, mainly because this chapter of my life becomes smaller and smaller in the rear view mirror every year. Anyway, thought I would post that I'm still alive and kicking, DX 11 years ago today (12/1/11), and no trace of cancer anywhere for over 10 years. Wishing simila...

10 year stage IV cancerversary

Well it's official today... I'm a 10 year cancer survivor. That year of my life is etched in my memory so it still seems like last year. So grateful to still be here and doing great. God's blessings to you all!

Re: Any young, long term survivors? Need hope

I was DX'd stage IV at age 35 in late 2011. I've been NED since treatment ended in mid-2012, so 9 years clear at this point. See my signature for treatment details.

Re: Oxaliplatin Dosage - Call Off

FOLFOX was replaced with FOLFIRI for me at cycle 6 or 7 due to an allergic reaction to the Oxaliplatin. You may want to look into FOLFIRI (Irinotecan instead of Oxaliplatin). My Onc said the 5FU does about 90% of the work anyway, so removing/replacing it shouldn't make a huge difference.

Re: Stage 4 going to yearly surveillance!

Congrats, that's great news. Sounds like your journey was similar to mine, and I also was treated primarily at Mayo. They really know how to handle cases like ours. Dave Hi Ehut, Question for you. I see in his notes that he is planning to do yearly scans for two more years and then will be done. Is...

Re: 1 year clear from stage IV

Congratulations! I remember the anxiety for every CT scan that slowly eased after each one. I hope you continue to get good reports and join the long term survivor club!

9 year stage IV cancerversary

I usually post for my annual cancerversary, so here is this year's post. It's been 9 years since that fateful day (12/1/11). I remember the flurry of activity for testing, staging, scans, and treatment in late 2011 and most of 2012. I was well aware of the long term survival statistics at the time, ...

Re: Stage 4 Diagnosis with Liver Resection curious about "Maintenance"

After my surgery, I had 8 follow up "mop up" chemo sessions and that has been it other than close surveillance for a few years. My oncologist offered maintenance chemo, but I declined. Still here 8 years later with no recurrence.

Re: Stage 4 Stable = cured ?

My Mayo care team recommended CT surveillance for colon cancer for 5 years, rectal 6 or 7. I had my last CT at 6 years (8 years now) and don't plan for more. I still have an annual CEA test and colonoscopies every 5 years.

Re: Male Fertility after Chemo

I don't see radiation in your plans, but if you do end up having that done, make sure your radiation oncologist knows that fertility is important to you, and hopefully they can accommodate. In my case, they shifted the beam slightly and gave me a gonadal shield to help protect the jewels.

Re: Male Fertility after Chemo

I was infertile after chemo and radiation treatment, although not sure which was more to blame. Sperm slowly returned after a few years, and I'm happy to report we had 2 additional kiddos since, without medical assistance. I had banked before treatment just in case, but we didn't need it.

Re: Huge High Grade Dysplasia Polyp

I had a large polyp, but bulb shaped and was removed during colonoscopy, biopsy showed negative for cancer. The GI doctor recommended a follow up colonoscopy in 2 years, but I was diagnosed stage IV only 14 months later. Bottom line: whatever procedure you have to remove it, insist on follow up colo...

Cure for all cancers with the same treatment?

I stumbled across this article today and thought it might give hope to some people here. Very early stages of research, but it sounds promising. https://www.dailywire.com/news/british-scientist-may-have-found-cure-for-cancer-by-accident?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=bens...
