Re: Lonesurf

My husband started it the beginning of January. He took 4 pills a day for 5 days, had a break for 4 or 5 days, took them again for 5 days and then a longer break. He is due to start again on Tuesday but is in the hospital so I'm not sure what's going to happen. He also has bone mets...only bone mets...

Re: Who does this?!? *rant*

It is so frustrating...I have often been in a fit of anger feeling like the doctors and nurses should be more considerate of our time and lives. I've actually told them that too...while we realize it not always in their control, that our lives are disrupted enough and we've had so much taken away al...

Re: Caregivers

Boy this is just a sucky difficult situation that non of us can truly figure out. Kelly, your post made me cry. I'm sure I'm not always there the way my husband wants me to be either. I think some of it is if I'm not stoic or being the cheerleader ...we will go off the deep end. Your husband is prob...

Re: Lower back + crampy pelvic pain -- a symptom of recurrence?

My husband had bone mets that started with the lower back pain...however 2 months in ibuprofen never would have helped. He was on serious pain meds before they finally figured it out thAt it was bone mets. His Cea also climbed ...has yours been checked?

Re: Caregivers

I will agree with Stu that it does get a little easier as time goes on, but the stress has not gone away for me. My husband was diagnosed stage 4, over 3 years ago. I feel I am mostly just exhausted all the time. Mentally and physically. We have 2 teens and our youngest is 4. I too try to keep their...

Re: Need some help - advice/suggestions

Sorry about your friend. I would recommend another opinion to try to figure things out. When my husband was diagnosed with rectal cancer, it was stage 4 because of para aortic node involvement. There were also bone lesions that biopsies negative so they assumed they were not cancer. They disappeared...

Re: I got DEPORTED today !!!

Did they let you keep it? Maybe for a shadow box you hang on the wall? Congrats ...that's awesome and must be a testament to the surgeon that it lasted so long. I think my husband would opt to keep it for blood draws alone! His is three hrs old this month. 3 Hrs? Or yrs? I love mine for blood draws...

Re: New here, pathology results today how tell kid (10)?

I agree - I think you did well and think it's good you mentioned cancer. It makes it less confusing. Our kids were 14, 12 and 1 at the time my husband was diagnosed stage 4. They do know how serious it is and have seen more than any kid should in the last 3 years, but we don't talk timelines and try...

Re: O/T … I hesitate to post this

I've never been a big poster here, but have come here often to read and research and appreciate how much folks share about their treatments and experiences. It's been a huge help to me over the last 3 years. I've always felt this place isnt quite as friendly to caregivers though so I've limited my p...

Re: Please don't call to tell me your friend died from CC

Ok don't wanna try to one up anyone, but this reminds me of the nurse my husband had in the er a couple of months ago. He had a micro perf in the bowel. This nurse told us her mom had crc cancer and then went on and on about her final months. I wish I had said something, but I was kind of speechless...

Re: How do you deal with all other obligations

Thank you all for your supportive and amusing replies :) To answer Kenny's question - one is a complete idiot, the other is the full time caregiver for dad who does need a break. I completely get that - I too would love a break! I'm lucky to get 2 hours every couple of months, and that's only if I c...

Re: Newly diagnosed~how to handle all the emotions

I think hanging onto hope is always a good thing! Sorry about your diagnosis. I can understand not telling the whole world, but for me it felt so uncomfortable and still does when someone asks how it's going, Etc . I felt weird saying fine and you. I kind of dreaded seeing people and still do at tim...

How do you deal with all other obligations

Wondering how folks do it all. We are struggling. My husband is two and a half yrs into the battle of stage 4. Just started folfiri with erbutix on Friday and so far so good. Been pretty much on chemo the whole time with a couple of breaks....in more ways than one! Had a femur break while on a chemo...
