Re: 30/yo Female - Just Diagnosed - Stage III Rectal Cancer

Hi, My husband did not do the radiation but did do Xeloda- He didn't have too many problems- besides being tired- but he worked the whole time during chemo- but he did have the hand and foot issues. I am sure you have read this but just in case you haven't-at the first sign of any hand foot issues u...

CEA level & Chemo because I obsessed over it

My husband was dx last July 2012 w. rc. Pre Surgery his CEA was in the 5-6 range- post surgery it was at like 3. Then he had chemo... His CEA went up around mid chemo to 6 again and then up slightly to the highest I think 8 or maybe even 11. Anyway- I was totally panicking and reading everything I c...

Re: My Husband 41 recently diagnosed -HELP!

Hi Dana, My husband, also 41, was diagnosed last summer. I remember I just survived each day as best as I could- it sucked. I will echo what someone else said- that I kept thinking after this test or that test we will have all the answers-but the fact is that nothing goes fast or is absolute. It see...

Re: the great white light? caregiver experiences requested..

I was with my mom when she died of lung cancer. The night before she died she had major trouble breathing - so hospice came in and put her on IV morphine- which calmed her down, helped her breath but also knocked her out. I laid next to her hospital bed (in her room) and held her hand all night- I k...

Re: Caring for the Caregiver

My husband was diagnosed a year ago- almost- to the day. Right now he is NED (hopefully forever) Prior to that I was a caregiver to my mom who died of Lung Cancer. Being a caregiver changed me - I used to be calm, chill, relaxed. After caring for my mom I developed anxiety and would never sit still-...

Re: American indian tea ???

I have heard of this tea. My mom did try it - she had lung cancer- I don't think she drank it that often. I had one holistic practitioner tell me (and her) that it can cure certain cancers- but of course there is very little support from western medicine and I don't think there are many if any studi...

Re: My mom died today

Lisa, My deepest and most sincere condolences. I lost my mom to lung cancer and one thing I always worried about was if she would suffer for a long time. She didn't -for that I am forever grateful. It sounds that your mom did not suffer at the end- I am glad for that although I know it doesn't make ...

Re: Anyone doing the Gerson Therapy?

I had a friend who was a big believer in Gerson- she didn't have cancer but did follow a raw diet. I looked into it when my husband was dx but what worried me is that even though they said things like "80% cure rate (or the like) I couldn't find any statistics. I think it can't hurt to eat lots...

Re: Views On Chris Warks' Approach To Cancer

there is a clear documented link between lifestyle choices and many cancers- many studies have confirmed this. However, lifestyle alone does not account for all cancers. One example, colon and rectal cancer are clearly linked to diets high in processed animal foods, but my 42 yr old vegan husband wa...

Re: Swelling Hands with Xeloda

My husband ices his hands and feet with bags of corn- it seems to help. there is some information on using Henna for hand foot syndrome out there on the web- he was not interested in trying this but I thought it was interesting. Also not all creams seemed to work the same for my husband- had to be u...

Re: New Blog Post - "Surviving the Day"

I don't think it is too depressing - I think it is very well written and I agree - it should be on the mandatory reading list of life- wishing you a "better day tomorrow"

Re: Genetics...or Crazy Coincidence???

my husband was dx at 42 - negative for lynch - both doctors we saw said right away ALL siblings must be tested immediately. There are other genetic reasons for cancer that are not yet clear. Also - hubby's maternal side has loads of cancer - not colon but other kinds

Re: My husband newly diagnosed with Stage 4 Colon Cancer....

Hi, sorry you had to come here... You will know more after the surgery- for now I would just focus on getting through that. I knew nothing when my husband had to go in for surgery or when all this started with my husband- he was dx in June. The surgery although the hospital stay is sort of short (if...

Re: I've gone on Hospice

You are not a fool. When my mom gave up chemo I could feel and see the relief all over her, she mostly gave up because the doctors told her it was no longer working but she didn't want to do more anyway - I would never have wanted her to do more for us - and I think if she had that would have been h...
