Re: I Need your help plz

Your best bet is to talk to her onc. about the situation.

Re: I Need your help plz

Initailly my MIL had some improvement after chemo, but unfortunately she is now in the late stages of the disease. I do remember though, that when she was on chemo she did get weak and was barely able to walk. That eventually went away when she took a chemo break.

Re: I Need your help plz

Hi ellie100, I am sorry that you are going through this. I have had to see my mother-in-law go through tretments and all its side effects. My MIL has stage 4 colon cancer with mets to her liver. She was experiencing weakness on chemo too, but just a question..is your mom having any swelling in her l...

Re: Cancer spread to stomach?

As far as my opinions go during this time, I have learned to voice them to my husband and have him pass on the information to the family...it's just easier that way :) I do understand that during this difficult time everyone is stressed out and frustrated, so I know not to take things to heart. Ever...

Re: Cancer spread to stomach?

Yes, my MIL's cancer spread to her liver and gradually to her lungs too. hannahw, I will try to ask the nurses about the medication that you mentioned, but most of the time the family doesn't listen to me or accept my opinions. I brought up the idea of giving my MIL ice chips and the family thought ...

Re: Cancer spread to stomach?

Hannahw, I don't think the morphine dose is too small of an amount, I just didn't think that my MIl was in that much pain to be taking the morphine since at first they started out giving her tylenol. She can't really express whether or not she is in pain b/c she cannot speak, so I didn't understand ...

Re: Cancer spread to stomach?

I do believe that my MIL would be better off at a hospice, but the family does not agree. I'm sure the experience at hospice is better for both the paitent and the family. Right now the doctor has given my MIL a little dose of morphine, I'm not sure if I agree with this.

Re: Cancer spread to stomach?

Ya, I don't think my MIL's ability to sit in a chair would be considered a 'surge of energy'. I'm not sure if hospice here in Ontario is available at the hospital as well as at home. My husband's family will not consider taking her home and caring for her there, which is a shame b/c I think she woul...

Re: Cancer spread to stomach?

Thanks for the link Bill. It has some very helpful information. I have been reading about end of life on some other websites as well and they all pretty much say the same thing. The only symptoms my MIL seems to have is sleeping most of the time, not eating or drinking as much as before, withdrawl, ...

Re: Cancer spread to stomach?

My MIL was drained several times, but this was before she was admitted to the hospital. Since she's been there, they haven't drained her. The ER doctor tested the fluid in her stomach that was causing so much discomfort, pain, fatigue, etc. and it came back that she had a bacterial infection. They g...

Re: Cancer spread to stomach?

Isn't hospice care done in the patients home and not in a hospital? Does palliative care involve something else other than pain managment?....I'm conufused. My husband and his family aren't interested in talking to a social worker about my MIL and their feelings, they barely ask the doctor's any que...

Re: Cancer spread to stomach?

We still haven't got confirmation that the cancer has spread to my MIL's stomach and I don't think they are going to be doing any tests to confirm this. Rick, you're pretty much right that since she's in palliative care nothing would be done to remove it. She is receiving end of life care and we wer...

Cancer spread to stomach?

Question for anyone who can help...can a doctor tell if the cancer has spread to the stomach just by feeling the stomach? The doctor felt my MIL's stomach and it was 'hard', he said that he thinks that it spread. She's in palliative care and are not going to do any test to confirm if it did. Thanks, D

Re: Apricot Seeds

Hi lepperl, I guess everyone reacts differently to different treatments. I think a certain diet has to be followed along with taking the apricot seeds...that's what I've read anyways. My family and I are pretty desperate right now, so I think my MIL is going to give them a shot....praying for a mira...

Re: Apricot Seeds

Hi Fede! thanks for you input. I know that the FDA has banned the use of apricot seed extract, but here in Canada, and I think in the USA as well, we can purchase apricot seed kernals. If not sick and taken in high doses, I'm sure it will be harmful, but if you are suffering form cancer it is recomm...
