Re: Urinary issues?--radiation

I had radiation 2 weeks before my surgery back in Dec '12. I don't recall having issues during that time. I did get an abscess/infection after surgery and have had bladder issues since then. For the most part it wasn't too bad. I think between the radiation, surgery and infection nerves going/coming...

Re: Liver Mets and Inoperable

If you have multiple liver mets, then more than likely you will be classified as inoperable. In order to have liver surgery you have to have approximately 25-30% of healthy liver left. Some people have 1 large tumor and they can have half their liver resected. Then there are the rest of us (me inclu...

Re: Avastin kicking my can

I would tend to think that its the cumulative effects from the Oxi and 5-FU and its just more of a coincidence that it came when the Avastin started. My first 2 FOLFOX were without Avastin, then I had it from treatments 3-14 (15 treatments total). Only issues I had from Avastin were extra bloody boo...

Re: Kemeny and folfox

I had 15 FOLFOX treatments in '12 from Apr to Nov. 10 I did with Oxi, 12 with Avastin. Yes, Oxi is NASTY Stuff, but CANCER IS NASTIER. My CEA was almost 3000 when I started treatment. After 6 treatments it went down to 86.4. By #10 it got down to 9.7. After I stopped oxi because of neuropathy it sta...

Re: Starting folfox Wednesday

My first 5 treatments of FOLFOX we fairly easy. You will get sensitivity to cold things. Be prepared to have gloves by the fridge and drink room temp drinks. You will lose energy for a day or two. Expect that as treatments go on the cumulative effects will make side effects worse and make them last ...

Re: Clindamycin for Erbitux Hand and Foot Sores

Overall the rash isn't to bad. I've only had 3 treatments so far. My scalp is starting to get itchy and more sensitive to the touch.

Haven't experienced any gut issues, but I will keep that in mind.

Re: Cold Sensitivity - Drink Suggestions

I stopped all cold drinks and just drank room temp water, green tea, Sobe Life Water & Gatorade. Even though its been almost a year and half since my last treatment with oxi I still mostly drink room temp water. I do like my Sobe Life Water (Pomegranite Cherry is my favorite) cold. Water I can d...

Re: Avastin vs Erbitux

I was getting Avastin while on FOLFOX in '12 (12 of my 15 treatments were with avastin) and again with FOLFIRI last year (14 of my 16 treatments were with avastin). My last CT scan showed a growth in my liver tumors so we stopped FOLFIRI w/Avastin. I also had to wait for results from my KRAS test. M...

Re: Clindamycin for Erbitux Hand and Foot Sores

It works well for me too. I'm on Erbitux now too. The acne/rash is across my upper chest. Also got it on the sides of my nose, behind my ears and on one side of my mouth. Its not appearing just below my lower lip and just above my upper lip. I also got a prescription for Fluocinolone (a steroid oint...

Re: what supplement should be taken !!

Be sure to consult with your oncologist or if possible a nutritionalist at your cancer center is there is one. In general most OTC dietary supplements don't really do much good. American's throw away more than 11 billion pounds of fruits and vegetables every year, yet spend $18.7 billion per year on...

Re: FOLFOX prep - best anti nausea & how to avoid neuropathy

Everyone reacts differently. In my total of 29 treatments of chemo I haven't had any nausea. Some people get it bad, some get it mild, some don't get it. Unfortunately neuropathy is different. Pretty much everyone gets it to some level. I did 10 treatments last year that included Oxi. After around t...

Re: Need oncologist in Seattle area

The University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle is the #7 ranked cancer hospital in the United States. Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center is also pretty good. Don't know of any specific oncologists at either, but you can't go wrong going to either of those places.

Re: Neuropathy

My last treatment with Oxi was September 4, 2012. The neuropathy got worse for about 3 months afterwards. In my hands it got to the point that I almost couldn't write or type. It is now completely gone in my hands, but my feet haven't gotten any better. My feet aren't terrible. Not completely numb i...

Re: I went to Dana Farber.... Here's the plan.

Hi Jason. I am being treated at Dana-Farber and from your original post (I haven't yet read through the entire thread) the doctor you described sounds like the same one I have. I have had nothing but great treatment at Dana-Farber. I have been going there since April 2012. Thus far I have had 28 che...

Re: FOLFOX Round 2 Effects Much Worse - Normal?

In my experience (15 rounds of FOLFOX 10 with oxi and 13 (so far) rounds of FOLFIRI) that yes it is normal that the side effects will be harder as chemo goes on. When I was on FOLFOX the first 4-5 rounds were pretty much the same, then rounds 6-9 got really worse. Rounds 10-15 were a lot easier thou...
