Re: Advice for first appointment with oncologist after diagnosis

Bring pen and paper. If you can, bring someone with you that can help you recall the things you were told. There will be a lot of information, and it can be an emotional time, so it is easy to forget what was said.

I hope your scan in July is excellent. Enjoy your break!

The standard run for post-op colorectal cancer. 6 months.

Re: Time to decide whether to do chemo or just observe

If it were me, I would do Xeloda, but that's mainly because I had almost no side effects so it was almost like not doing chemo. If there is even one more met still too small to be seen on a scan, I think it would be worth doing Xeloda. If chemo doesn't do much to circulating tumor cells, why does p...

Time to decide whether to do chemo or just observe

Four years after resection, and 3.5 years since the completion of Folfox, a small met appeared in my lung. It took 5 years from surgery to get big enough to biopsy. I had it removed in an super-easy lung resection 6 weeks ago. It was 1 cm in size, and the tissue removed had clean margins. My oncolog...

Re: Things people say or don't say but it's okay

In other words, when it is estimated that 47% of colorectal cancers could be prevented by appropriate lifestyles, it stands to reason that CRC could be reversed by extremely healthy lifestyles. If 50% of amputations can be prevented by avoiding heavy machinery, it stands to reason that limbs can be...

Re: Things Not to Say and the Responses I want to Make (Rant)

I was just talking to a friend, and the subject of how rough chemo can be came up. He went on and on, almost longingly, about how many people come to the realization that getting a few extra months of miserable life through chemo is so much worse than just going and being happy until the end. I just...

Re: Bad Scan but no rush? Lung nodule

Sunwaterandsky, Can I ask where the nodule is located in your lung? Based on my limited experience, I find it strange they are saying you can't fly for a while after a biopsy. Maybe it was because mine nodule was close to the rib cage, but the biopsy was quick and simple. I was partially knocked out...

Re: Bad Scan but no rush? Lung nodule

Well, I spoke with my oncologist. As expected, she reiterated that the data is thin for what the best approach is for someone in my position. She is recommending CT's every 3 months for a while, then every 6 months. She has also offered a couple chemo options if we feel the peace of mind is worth th...

Re: Bad Scan but no rush? Lung nodule

Hi Dan, I am sorry to hear that. I know how we cherish every day that we are cancer free. Can I ask, what is the treatment plan now? I am assuming that mine is definitely cancer - met or new primary, based on the report. I am more concerned about what happens once it is identified. cheers, SWS Good...

Re: What do you drink during cold sensitivity?

I kept a pitcher of water with a fruit holder thing in the middle in the fridge, and a glass of the water on the counter to warm up a bit. The little bit of fruit flavor made a big difference for me. The pitcher was something like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0023UL86A/ref=asc_df_B0023UL86A50300...

Re: Bad Scan but no rush? Lung nodule

I was recently in a similar situation. Five years out and a growing nodule in my lung. I personally pushed to have the biopsy done quickly. I can't say this mattered medically. The nodule was very slow growing. It was something I personally wanted, as I hate sitting with uncertainty. We have enough ...
