Re: Signet ring cells

@Prtza Hope your doing fine....Did you get a 'newplan' from your onc or still going on Folfiri? Hi there, Yes I am on a new plan. In fact I started with it this week. It is simply 5FU , continuous infusion over five days, every 28 days, for 6 months. I am struggling a bit with pain. I got a prescri...

Re: Signet ring cells

Hi there,

A number of us have SRC. I suggest that you search the board for "signet" or " live ringers" to find the earlier discussion on this topic.

Thanks Bev. I appreciate that.

I saw one of the oncs today. My regular guy is on vacation. He said that I should stop Folfiri and he will work out a new plan. Meanwhile I am going back to hospital tomorrow for drainage.

Hi Lauretta,
Yes this is presumably the same recurrence that we detected back in January, and have been fighting with FOlFiIRI since then.

The surgeon has just discussed the CT scan results with me. Not good news. Massive ascites present. No obvious obstruction. All he can offer me is parecentesis drainage for symptomatic relief.

Re: It's back, they don't know - what the hell do I do? SRC

@prtza: how is FOLFIRI working for you so far? Is there a reason you didn't get Avastin? I'm sorry about your bowel obstruction.. my dad had one of those and it was so uncomfortable for him. What is a TP diet? Thanks for the kind words. If I knew that the treatment was for sure going to cure my dad...

Re: It's back, they don't know - what the hell do I do? SRC

I have Signet Rignet Cell, and my reccurrence occurred in the peritoneum, on the surface of the small intestines. I am currently undergoing FOLFIRI chemo. Struggling with small bowel obstruction at the moment. The dietician wants to put me on TPN. The recurrence was confirmed visually during gallbla...

Re: You Canucks watching hockey?

I appeal to the moderators to close this incomprehensible thread. These "sports" are of unknown to most of the world. I have no idea if the "bruins" (what are those anyway?) will win something called the "NBA", or why they would name a baseball trophy after an Africa e...

Re: folfox injection vs pump

I'm not certain how much longer the body retains 5FU when leucovorin is given but I know that leucovorin is essential in trying to maintain a larger amount of the cancer killing 5FU in the body for longer periods of time. This paper probably contains that info but I can't find the full pdf (for fre...

Re: folfox injection vs pump

Yes, leucovorin does "potentiate" the effects of 5-FU but the reason for the continuous 5-FU infusion is it's short half life, as pog pointed out. "The activity of 5-FU is relatively S-phase-dependent and the half-life in serum is short. Thus, prolonged infusion may expose a relativel...

Re: Had my defecating proctogram today

Let's hope the procedure lets them get to the bottom (hmm seriously no pun intended..) of what is going on with your bowels.

I guess I shouldn't complain about being made to drink a couple of liters of barium solution before being scanned to diagnose a small bowel obstruction.
