Re: Flying to Tulsa this week for second opinion

14 hours of surgery. They woke me up saturday morning. Came off the vent by noon. The vent was probably the worst part. Pain is pretty high but manageable. I have a wound vac because there wasn't enough skin left to close me back Up. Every day I feel a little bit better but I know it will be a long ...

Re: Flying to Tulsa this week for second opinion

HIPEC is tomorrow morning. Doing prep now, I've already drank 2 liters of tri-lyte and haven't had first BM. I have to admit I'm a bit scared about this procedure. They educated me today on everything that will be done tomorrow and it's quite extensive. My trust is in the Lord, but I know the recove...

Do what you can to get sleep at night. Maybe some Ativan or Ambien. If you don't get a good night's sleep, you'll never conquer the fatigue.

Re: Flying to Tulsa this week for second opinion

Surgery is scheduled for July 6. We're back home and taking care of stuff around the house in preparation for for this surgery. Doctor told me it will be about a month before I get back home. When I was first diagnosed, I felt blessed that I only lived 100 miles from MD Anderson. It is a great hospi...

Re: Flying to Tulsa this week for second opinion

Been in Tulsa for a few days now. The vibe around here is so much different than MDA. Most people here are advanced stages, bit of an older crowd. Staff is super nice, doctors seem aggressive. We've been meeting with all the different departments in preparation of a consultation with oncologist on M...

Re: Flying to Tulsa this week for second opinion

The surgery I need now is actually a temp ileostomy. They'll leave the colon in place to lessen the severity of the procedure. Chemo is literally tearing my ass up. The hope is that a diversion will allow my rectum to heal. Right now, my quality of life is extremely low. Rix, my cancer is actually e...

Re: Flying to Tulsa this week for second opinion

It was predetermined that I am eligible for surgery now. I didn't receive Avastin on my last treatment so I had the green light for the surgery. Then I was told the surgeons schedule is full for 5 weeks. I feel as if any gains I had made would be totally negated by such a long break. I've talked to ...

Flying to Tulsa this week for second opinion

I've been receiving treatment at MDA in Houston since my diagnosis. For the most part, I've been satisfied with their service but there have been issues which have been frustrating. There's so many doctors there, its hard to keep things straight. I've been admitted 3 times over the course of 4 chemo...

Re: Getting a bag much sooner than expected

Thanks for the prayers and words of encouragement everyone. All the pain I am experiencing is due to the fissure and reaggravation of colitis in the form of proctitis. Plan is to do an ileostomy while leaving my colon in place. I'm concerned I'll still have pain since the colon will still be there, ...

Re: Getting a bag much sooner than expected

Thanks for the input guys. The ONLY side effect of chemo that has been severe is constipation which has led to excoriation, muscle cramps, soreness, horrendous pain and grumpiness. I'm hoping the pouch alleviates all this. The cold intolerance will seem like a walk in the park if this procedure is s...

Getting a bag much sooner than expected

Ive been admitted to MD Anderson for a week now. Chronic constipation due to chemo and all it's accompanying afflictions. Excoriation, hemi's, fissure, pressure, etc. They've pumped into me every antibiotic on the shelf, not to mention hydromorphone, oxycodone, tramadol, lyrica, morphine, methadone,...

Re: Hospital Beds

I've been laying in the bed you are describing for 5 days now at MD Anderson. All of their beds have this feature. My only complaint is that it sometimes adjusts too quickly. Too much pumping and deflating. I sleep like a baby though. My wife and my dad have both stayed overnight and they both compl...
