Re: Hair loss on folfiri

Mine thinned over a year's time, then it started coming out like crazy, now it has settled back to a slow thinning again. I would say I've lost about 50 % of my hair over the last year and a half.

Re: Getting travel insurance with metastatic cancer

I travelled from Ottawa to Seattle this spring, no one would give me insurance that covered pre-existing conditions, even though I am stable, but I had no problem getting regular insurance for accidents and other things. So I just decided to take my chances (I really wanted to visit my sister).

Re: Exercise during Chemotherapy

The medical staff I deal with all recommend exercise highly. Within the limits of the fatigue I get, I go for walks, sometimes a couple of times per day, anywhere from 1/2 hour-1 hour. It feels very good. I would see what your doctor says in terms of type and intensity of exercise.

Re: Avastin warriors - Any advice?

I have gotten a few slight nose bleeds, my blood pressure has gone up a bit. So far no protein in the urine. I just finished my 12th treatment.

Re: cancer without a caregiver?

I live alone too. My sister, who was there for me a lot of the time at the beginning moved across the country, in fact she now lives in the US. I have a brother and friends in the city, but no one with me all the time. So far it has worked, but I do worry a bit about how things will be when I get wo...

Re: living alone doable? or living with someone while on Che

I live alone and I know someone else who did a year all on her own. We had the visiting nurse if we need it. She did, I at least know it is there for when/if I need help. In the past I stayed with my sister, but the last treatment I was on my own for the two days I had the bottle attached to me. I w...

Re: Can chemo "cure" liver mets - call for your experiences

Some people like me cannot be operated on, we have to hope chemo shrinks it to nothing and that we can have a break of a few years if possible.

Re: Stomach cramps on FOLFIRI

I get a shot right before I get my ironitican, I forget what it is called, it is to prevent a major cramp while the infusion is happening. It doesn't stop the big D, that is still a possibility.

Re: Go-Lytly

Pico salax is what I used for my colonoscopy, it was very easy. Two doses in a mug of water about 12 hours apart, easy peasy, combined with a clear liquid diet, it really cleans you out. Is that what that other stuff is? The same kind of laxative? I am unfamiliar with Go-Lytly. I hope it all goes we...

Re: Worse side effects....better chemo results?

When I started the folfiri plus Avastin, I have had varying reactions, some weeks I am more nauseated (I say oogy) than others, but it is almost always just mild for a day or two. It has been 12 weeks, I still have hair (though it is thinning). So far my blood counts (platelets, wbc, etc.) have stay...

Re: Melanoma surgery is Tuesday :(

I had a growth on my upper ear removed, the doctor thought it was cancer and took a larger margin off, a pie slice (she was a plastic surgeon and her words to the other doctor when he suggested a punch biopsy was "Plastic surgeons don't do punch biopsies"). Luckily it wasn't cancer. One ea...
