I have a very successful straight connect. I always forgot to ask my surgeon why he chose that for me. He is well known in the area for j- pouches. It worked well for me but someday I may ask why. Good luck.
I only had four visits to the ER. Two visits I ended up in ICU and two I ended up with a week stay on a regular floor. A fifth time was when I made an appointment with my surgeon with issues. When I called for an appointment he told me to come right in. As soon as I got there he called an ambulance ...
From my understanding PET scans are not the first option or recommended do to the extra poisons that are put unnecessarily into your body. Plus CT scans for the most part will show the recurrence although some people will disagree with that since experiences are different for everyone. I had a CT sc...
Good luck to your cousin and your family. The severity of the side effects from chemo/radiation using Xeloda are all over the place depending on the person. I did the radiation and Xeloda prior to my LAR and did not have any issues with it and worked. I would schedule my radiation at the end of the ...
The verbiage depends on your physicians. Complete remission is that there is no evidence of cancer. So NED is used interchangeably. There is also partial remission where the cancer is decreasing or only something small is found and they are watching it. To me its all good and they can call it what t...
I was diagnosed July 2011. Was NED from Dec. 2011 through May 2013 when cancer revisited me. Had surgery at that time and have been NED since then. Just had a PET last week and so far all is good. My scans are always marked as stable since I have another condition that lights up just like my cancer....
Sorry to hear you were denied. We should not have to work so hard for treatment.
Can't believe they did not cover it! My insurance covered my "baking soda lemon peel pineapple cure treatment plan". Sorry! Could not resist that treatment to cure me!
Have you tried talking with your surgeon? I have a straight connect and not a j-pouch but my surgeon was great at walking me through the adjustment period. Although he was a little different and had me avoid all drugs and supplements for the first month or so to allow my body to adjust naturally. Go...
I am not sure there is one right answer for everyone. You have to listen to your body to see what works. I know for me I have to walk run regularly to stay regular. The activity is very helpful. I have learned different foods to slow me down such as carbs or protein. And foods that will usually alwa...
For me it would depend where I am at in the cancer journey. If I were still in treatment or waiting on having a surgery I would be honest because I would need to be asking for time off ahead of time. My rule of thumb is if you will need time off in your first year that needs to be discussed pre-hire...
I am similar to everyone else. They removed my whole rectum along with the tumor. But I had radiation pre-surgery. Drink a lot of lemon juice to prevent burning on radiation at the end. Sounds crazy but it really works.
