Re: Xeloda vs. 5FU

I had a Power Port, and it was a lifesaver. My Dr did not give me a choice, he just said "you'll be getting a port". He was right. Very easy to access, and not able to be seen. They'd use it everytime I needed an IV, too, and I liked that. I had both Xeloda and 5FU during my treatment. Wit...

Re: oxaliplatin

I also had my dosage reduced due to Neuropathy and then had to stop because I became allergic. 8 years later, I'm still cancer free, so what I did get must've worked.

Best of luck to you,

Re: Portacath insertion, what to expect?

My surgeon had me tell him where my bra stap fell so he could place it away from there. Take note of where yours is, and if s/he doesn't ask you, make sure to tell them. I'm sure they'll accommodate you. I also had a bit of trouble with seatbelts, but that's easily adjusted and minor. I agree totall...

Re: Any luck with Neoadjuvant chemo/radiation therapy Stage 3 Rectal Cancer?

Yes. My treatment mirrored what you've described in your signature, and I had a complete pathological response. This was in 2010, Stage 3b, Adenocarcinoma. All scans and scopes since then have been clear.

Best of luck to you and your mom,

Re: Radiation induced menopause

I second Weisscoccermom's advice. Don't wait! I didn't find this forum and her advice till it was too late for me. My gyno opened my vagina during surgery but it still healed closed again. No more Pap tests for me, and sex is painful and rare. I really wish I'd have known then what I know now. Regar...

Re: Rant - colon vs rectal cancer

I stopped saying that I have "rectal cancer" when the 10th person said "Oh! Just like Farrah Fawcet..." (Anal Cancer,) I started calling it "colorectal" because I'm not always up for an in depth conversation about what an anus is vs. a rectum. Besides, it's none ...

Re: Not diagnosed, refuses medical treatment

I know that suggestion to drug him was given with the best intentions, but I urge you to NOT DO THAT. Besides it being simply wrong, he's in such poor shape that you can't know whether it would have unintended effects on him. Perhaps you could enlist the help of his friends or family? I can't imagin...

I'm sorry you've got to start another fight, but I'll keep you in my prayers! And as for your weird sense of humor, that's a great asset to your journey! You'll find plenty of weird/offbeat/occasionally irreverent humor here. :-)

Re: Afraid to eat

Are you still on chemo? I'm guessing yes? When you're done, I'd strongly suggest getting yourself onto a strong probiotic. I take VSL-3, a medical grade probiotic that my surgeon recommends to people with IBD. It made a huge, huge difference for me. I still have to watch what I eat and be somewhat c...

Re: Is it possible that VSL#3 probiotic caused husband's diarrhea?

Jumping right in with a very strong probiotic can cause problems. Best to start small and work up to it as the bacteria repopulate the gut, otherwise it can cause D and some gas. But if he's hitting the dairy hard, then that could very well be the culprit....it sure was for me while I was on chemo a...
