Re: Stage IV 5 yrs later now peritoneum spread-head is spinn

Hi: I also have mets to the peritoneum and wasn't and won't be eligible for the peritoneum removal/HIPEC surgery. However, my oncologist put me on folfirinox (oxaliplatin + irenotecan + 5FU pump) and there was some reduction in size in some of the peritoneum mets and no new ones. However, I ended up...

Re: Abdominal Pain Question

Hi: I, too, have been experiencing lots of pain in my abdominal area (see my posted query) following several surgeries for gallbladder cancer and most recently for a permanent colostomy (left side). My pain is mainly at the belly button and on the right side. I had folfirinox up until May 2012 and h...

Internal Gastro-Intestinal Pain Upon Standing

Hi all: This has probably been covered already in some other discussion in the past but I couldn't find it. In May 2012 I have a perforated bowel and had a colostomy. It took 2 surgeries to do that as in the 2nd surgery the surgeon fixed up a hernia from abdominal surgeries in April 2010. In April 2...

Re: Banana Skins

Hi: I wish someone would try the banana skins! I agree, it must be the inner white part. I don't see my nurse until next week but I'll get more information then - as someone said, what the heck, it can't hurt! At least the overall shape is right! Re the neuropathy. I used the following supplements f...

Banana Skins

This is going to sound way out there, but here goes. I remember getting these horrible, painful anus sores when I was on folfirinox and having to apply goopy diaper rash. I may have to go back on folfirinox and was talking to my nurse about it. She said she has a patient on folfox who gets the same ...

Re: ambient noise machine

Hi: I don't have the alarm clock but do have a radio-like one that plays those sounds all night. I can choose which sound to have (e.g. babbling brook - but makes me want to go to the loo!) and at what volume. I also have lots of relaxation CDs and even DVDs. All help when you can't sleep which is n...

Re: Folfox shopping list--any suggestions?

Hi: If you want her to try what I did to keep the cold thing at bay, here is my list: (1) L-glutamine powder (5-10grams/day in a smoothie) (2) Vit B6 (1/day) (3) Calcium-Magnesium tablet (1/day) (4) Alpha lipoic acid tablets (3/day) A cancer friend took these medicinals to help her get through the c...

Re: Hair color and chemo

Hi: I have had 12 treatments on cisplatin-gemcitibine and 14 treatments on folfirinox. In the beginning, I did not lose any hair but that sure changed near the end of my folfirinox treatments and even more after surgery for a perforated bowel - most of my hair fell out/broke off (I had coloured my h...

Re: Calling ALL Colorectal CANUCKS !

Hi: I've always have had to wait 2 weeks to go over my CT/MRI scans with my oncologist at the London Regional Cancer Centre. I can get the scans at any of our 3 hospitals and the radiologists compares the recent scan to all others I've had. The appointment with the oncologist is usually 2 weeks late...

Re: Can they treat just the liver?

Hi: I have mets to the peritoneum and to the liver. Surgery is out because of the multiple mets. However, I just finished high dose radiation to the liver tumour - every 2nd day for 2 weeks. I have a CT scan coming up so we'll see how that worked. I'll keep you posted.

Re: Diverticulitis - result of chemo?

Hi: I had 14 treatments of folfirinox (oxaliplatin + irenotecan + 5FU). On May 28, I was enjoying my morning cup of coffee and suddenly I was completely paralyzed with pain through the abdomen. Couldn't even move. Fourteen hours later I was found by friends and rushed to emergency. I was in intensiv...

Re: A last ride with Blue the convertible

Hi: I am so so sorry about Lauren. We shared the same disease. She was a fighter. It was a beautiful day here in Ontario as well and I was thinking of you, a
mom who fought so hard for her beloved daughter. What a funeral! She must have been grinning all day.

Re: Cold Sensitivity

Hi: I had cold sensitivity with the first treatment of folfirinox but after that took supplements (alpha lipoic acid, L-Glutamine, Vit B6, calcium:magnesium) and never had it again even after 14 treatments.
