Re: Study: vitamin D and calcium do not reduce colorectal cancer risk

Last year there was a Vitamin D study which said there was no evidence that D did much of anything. All the talk about it reducing the incidence of cancer etc. was wrong. It was all over the news so most people will hear that Vit D does nothing. I looked up the actual study and they used the RDA of ...

Re: Study: vitamin D and calcium do not reduce colorectal cancer risk

Here's the study: http://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa1500409?query=featured_home The article noted an increase in D levels but not what those levels were. My husband had a D level of 11 at diagnosis. He started with 2000 IU's of D which got him up to 19, 10K keeps him at 35. I think this stu...

Marc died last October. Search for him on CC and read his posts, being a doctor himself made his perspectives on treatment all the more interesting.

Re: Need some help - suggestions

A young woman who worked for us a long time started walking hunched over, holding desks for support because she was in so much pain. She saw doctors and chiropractors but nothing. Finally scans were done and her liver was riddled with cancer. They told her the liver was not primary and were unable t...

Re: O/T … I hesitate to post this

Greg, I saw your post where you said that CR guy was talking about a friend and defended them. No, you didn't, because I didn't say that. There was a claim earlier in the thread that mods never pick favorites. I pointed out that the OP (that is, CRguy), quoted an email from someone and took that pe...

Re: O/T … I hesitate to post this

I found the OP inappropriate from the get go. Simple as that. That is not so simple if one can't figure out what "OP" means. The post that initiated this thread was by CRguy, which I thought was totally inappropriate (and said so), but no one seems to agree with me, or even to see the poi...

Re: I am SO angry with this religious debate!

Kenny, there are safe rooms, read the article, the point here is that instead of stifling debate and sending those with whom we disagree to a separate forum we all just learn to live with different viewpoints. It was meant to be sarcastic to illustrate the point. There is no need to be offended by w...

Re: I am SO angry with this religious debate!

Maybe what we need is a "safe room" for people who are so easily offended by someone's else's opinions. Dealing with cancer can involve politics (healthcare), religion, treatments, alternatives, family support and squabbles and many things I haven't thought of. Get involved in the debate o...

Re: Why dont they..

Interesting question. I read somewhere recently that people with the the blood type A+ are more prone to cancer and tend to have more trouble fighting it off once they get it. I can't recall the exact reason. And with other blood types it's apparently better to be rH-. I'll see if I can find the li...

Re: Mis diagnosis?

My husband had suspicious nodes along the internal iliac and in the mesorectal area. The nodes were biopsied prior to beginning radiation...positive for cancer. The nodes along the iliac were 1.8, 1 and 1.9 centimeters. He had the standard radiation and chemo. The pathology report came back clean fo...

Re: new member with ostomy question

Get a sample from Cymed, it might work. http://cymedostomy.com/home.html The wafer is the same as tegaderm. I doubt it has the same glue as the others, it's really good if you are dealing with folds or uneven skin or flat or innie stomas. They are a little tricky to apply but easy when you get the h...

Re: New CDC anti smoking commercail and colosomy bag :(

I saw it and thought it was disgusting. Setting aside they were blaming smoking which hasn't been proven as a cause of crc, it made the colostomy bag a punishment, something to be ridiculed. There are a lot of people alive today because there is such thing as a colostomy. Not to mention the many wit...

Laurettas, with the greatest of respect, I wish you would shut it. You were a caregiver and should know when you are out of line. If I was stage 4 right now, I think I would have more choice words for your ridiculous and insensitive comments on this topic. No one on this board has the corner on suf...

Re: Britanny Maynard

Questioning a law does not equate to judging Brittany which again, no one did. Brittany used a law and was within her rights. It is the law being questioned. I don't judge or condemn Brittany but will continue to question the law. I will continue to be concerned that as a society we will become dese...
