Liver and Peritoneal Involvement

I woke up at 5:30 this morning to have a liver resection and RFA on two small spots on my liver (less than 2 cm each). It was going to be an "easy" surgery compared to my others according to my surgeon who has been with me throughout this 5 year marathon. When I came to in recovery and saw...

Re: HIPEC Side Effect

I felt some nausea and had a metallic taste in my mouth for the first few days but nothing a little Zofran and lemon tea couldn't take care of. I was one of the lucky ones, I've had HIPEC twice and both times avoided the ICU and was home within 4 days.

Best of luck to you...

Re: FOLFIRI and hair loss

I too had lots of thinning with Folfox but with Folfiri it was coming out so fast by the second treatment that I decided to shave it all off. The trauma of having hair fall in my food and finding it all over the furniture was too much for me. I ended up wearing scarves instead of the wig I had bough...

Re: I'm a new member here.

Your story is all too familiar.. I was diagnosed five days after giving birth to my son via c-section and my daughter was 20 months at the time. It has been a challenging road but I am still here 5 years later! Please do not hesitate to send me a personal message if you have any questions or want to...

Five Years

This is my latest Caringbridgr entry, just thought I would share it with my Colon Club "family" since you have been an endless resource of hope, information and perspective... Today marks five years since I heard the words, "You have cancer." Tai was just five days old and Emi wa...

Re: Question about VATS

I stayed one night in the hospital and was home the next day. Back to teaching second grade three days later. Definitely use that incentive spirometer as much as you can! Good luck and be well!

Re: HIPEC and QOL

I have had 2 HIPEC surgeries and I absolutely think it was worth it. It has given me more time with my two young children and hopefully new drugs are coming that will also give me some more options. Good luck to you and your family.

Re: Hi

I feel your misery. Folfiri was not a friend to me either. It turned out the I was lacking the enzyme to break it down so I needed a much smaller dose than normally prescribed. I tried Tincture of Opium (drops) and self injections of Sandostatin (they worked for a little while). Good luck to you. Ev...

Post-radiation Pneumonitis/Bronchoscopy

I had SBRT on my left lung back in August and I am grateful that it successfully killed the nodule. Now I am suffering from a relentless cough that has caused me to fracture my rib. I've tried Prednisone but it hasn't been as effective as my oncologist would like. He is sending me for a bronchoscopy...

Hope for Stage 4 Survivors

Haven't updated in a while...had my second clean CT since my SBRT treatment in August. I am thrilled to have this gift of time with my family. My daughter turned 6 in December and my son who was 5 days old when I was diagnosed is now 4 and a half. It has not been an easy road but it has been filled ...

Re: questions for those on Xeloda

I take 2 pills twice a day for two weeks and then a week break. I also do AVASTIN once a week. I have been on this regimen for almost 18 months and it has been wonderful for me. No Hand and Foot issues. My hands are dry so I moisutrize regularly. I have had some joint pain so I take Alleve every day...

Dr. Labow at Mt. Sinai in NYC performed 2 HIPEC surgeries on me in 2012 and 2013 and I'm still here! I'd highly recommend him.
