Stage IV - 5 Years All Clear

I have not been active on the board for quite sometime, but return to offer hope to those individuals who are knee-deep in this battle. I was diagnosed December 2010 as Stage IV at 46 years old with rectal cancer, with metastases to my lungs (3 tiny spots less than I millimeter in size). Surgery was...

Re: Mets To the lungs Questions

My lung nodules were resected immediately--then followed up with mop-up chemotherapy for 6 treatments. Surgery is the gold standard...I would seek that option out.

Re: CRC metastasis to lungs first?

Colorectal cancer (CRC) when metastatic will frequently first present in the lung. This is due to the blood vessels in the rectum that also feed blood supply to the lungs. Cancer cells use this pathway to travel to the lungs. On the other hand, Colon cancer typically first presents metastases to the...

Re: Just diagnosed - So Many Questions!

I was in the same situation as you--- in December 2010. I first had surgery to remove the lung met (VATS) then 6 treatments of Folflox, then 28 days chemo/radiation to shrink the rectal tumor. LAR surgery with an ostomy-- followed by 12 treatments of Folfiri. My LAR surgery was in September 2011-- r...

Stage IV - 4 years NED

While I no longer post frequently, I continue to read and follow the events of my peers. I want to share encouraging news that as a Stage IV patient, as of my scans yesterday, I have been NED since surgery in September 2011. I don't share this to gloat but to provide encouragement to those with this...

Re: Calling all stage 4 survivors

Well count me in! I had my scan this week and fortunate to report, NED. I was diagnosed December 2010 stage IV rectal cancer (lung mets) at the age of 46. I first had VATS January 2011 to remove the lung nodules, followed by 6 treatments of Folflox. Next came chemo/radiation for 28 day. I had a comp...

Re: Any NEDs out there after CC and Lung mets?

Well, I am happy to report that I fall into that category. I was diagnosed Stage IV with rectal cancer at age 46 with two small lung mets December 2010. First, I had VATS January 2011 for the two small lung nodules. Then I did 6 treatments of Folflox. I then moved to the 28 daily treatments of chemo...

Encouragement - Stage IV 2 year NED

Hi Everyone- I want to post encouragement for Stage IV patients. I had a scan yesterday and everything still looks like NED. Re: Stage IVs, Keeping port, HOW LONG?

I was Stage IV from the begining. My port was removed April of this year. Originally diagnosed December 2010 and found to have a lung met that was first addressed via VATS in January 2011, Folflox (6 treatments) then Chemo/Readiation for the rectal tumor and onto my resection in September 2011. Foll...

Re: Anyone stage IV colorectal cancer w/lung nodules hv succ

I would encourage you to find a different lung surgeon for a second opinion. Remember, most times a cure is achieved through surgical removal of the tumor. At diagnosis, I had two small (less than one millimeter) nodules show up on a CAT scan. I was offered the option of biopsy or removal. I chose r...

I had Avastin with my Folfox chemo therapy prior to my resection. It worked well in dissolving my rectal tumor. Best of luck to you.

Re: Stage 4 Survivors - Can you update us on your progress

I was diagnosed with rectal cancer December 2010-- Stage IV from the beginning with a lung met. I started with VATS surgery in February 2011 to remove the lung met followed by 6 treatments of Folflox. A CAT scan showed my rectal cancer had also decreased in size from the Folfox. I then progressed to...

Dance in the Rain

I just want to share a comment from my 17 year old son. Last evening, as my son was doing homework nearby; my wife and I were talking about a potential career change I am contemplating. It's a higher level VP position with a heavy work load. I said to my wife, I am just uncertain because of my healt...
