Total Pelvic Floor Reconstruction

Due to complications from my colostomy surgery back in 2012 I finally had the big pelvic floor reconstruction this past April. As a result, I have a "Barbie butt". My questions are for anyone having similar surgery. It is now the end of December and I'm still sore, from what I'm reading th...

anyone else hot all the time?

Since my surgeries, chemo and radiation I am hot ALL the time. I am 47 years old and female, but I've had a couple of blood tests done to test for menopause, and so far they say that's not it. That leads me back to all the cancer stuff. I rarely cool off. I live in Kansas City now, and with the weat...

Re: Radiation experiences?

I'm one of those that always gets weird side effects, but it was much later. Pain from radiation started about week 4, and the fatigue was horrible. All I really need was the Aquafor , by the end of radiation everything was back to normal. That was around Christmas of 2010. In May 2012 my routine CT...

bathing suits with colostomy

Going to the beach in April, and this will be the first time with a colostomy. My new normal I think will require a new suit. I've been searching the internet for a tankini style bathing suit, but I'm looking a tankini's for a long torso, because obviously I want it as long as possible. Also no too ...

Re: Stuart Scott

I couldn't agree with you more! I tell everyone my story, and I'm always saying "everyone talks about boobs but no one wants to talk about butts!" I now have a permanent colostomy and am very open about talking about it. As in, see where this can lead... Our insurance here at work now cove...

post resection/colostomy/infection/radiation necrosis

Original resection 9/20/10 w/ cancer, f/u w/ chemo/radiation. All good except could never have a complete colonoscopy. Turns out I had a stricture, got sent to a specialist, went back in 9/17/12 for another resection, this time removing entire rectum (which was completely fried from radiation) and n...

Re: "phantom" or real stuff after colostomy???

Well it does help that it seems common, my doctor said not to worry. I sure hope I'm in the the 6 week percentage though, this is awful! I'm not sure what's worse, the smell or the pain! My husband thought I was emptying a bag it smelled so bad. I've got some openings where I had a couple of staples...

"phantom" or real stuff after colostomy???

Well I had my surgery 3 weeks ago, and now have a permanent colostomy, which is doing well. I'm wondering though about this urge I still have to go to the potty the old way, I know it's called phantom, but my issue is that may be but it really hurts! Has anyone else had this? This happens many times...

Re: Surgery Countdown, Anxiety Rising

very similar here, except my cancer has been gone. I've not got a rectal stricture that deveoloped from radiation that no one caught before the thing grew so big that we have no choice but to go in and have another resection done. I was lucky with my first resection, no ostomy, but like you I will h...

Re: need advice on FMLA

The ways to qualify are 1) you have to have worked at least one year prior to requesting FMLA, and 2) in the previous 12 months of FMLA you have to have worked at least 1250 hours. Depending on how much time he missed during that first year of employment may depend on whether or not he qualifies eve...

Re: Side effects they don't tell you about

They told me I'd get tired. I thought, oh well, whatever. It was unbelievable the fatigue I had! it was like no other fatigue I'd ever had in my life, and I would almost swear that my youngest son was such a terrible baby that he didn't sleep for the first two years! Nothing was like chemo. I found ...
