Re: VATs recovery and mucus

Oncologist says mucus is an expected side effect of the surgery. Have booked a scan in a couple of weeks - trying to decide if I want to quit my job and move to Europe before I get too old..... and my UK passport is Brexited.

Re: VATs recovery and mucus

Hi Lee, I have insurance but the scan section is topped out. I am waiting for a scan from the public hospital. I have actually been suffering from a bad cold, so the mucus is worse than usual. I have an appointment with the oncologist on Tuesday. I think I will get a referral for a scan and just pay...

Re: Solitary Lung Met - Looking for Positive Experiences

Congratulations on the successful surgery. I had a VATs procedure in August and was surprised at how quickly I recovered. I have lingering problems with mucus build up and asthma but I am back at work teaching and walking 3-5 km a day and pushing higher on the weekends. My docs have all said that ch...

VATs recovery and mucus

I had a VATs procedure on August 22nd and have recovered well. They removed the right upper lobe of my lung. I had very little pain and managed to leave the hospital with only tylenol for pain relief. My one concern is that my breathing does not seem to be improving as fast as I think it should. I h...

Re: Inserting Port or not

Hi Mercy, I had trouble with my first Oxi treatment and insisted on a port. Unfortunately, at the time, the QMH would not support ports for CC patients. I ended up with a PICC line. It required a bit more care than a port but was well worth it. I would encourage your mother to get the port. Anything...

Re: Hoping fo Colon Cancer?

Susie, I hope your news is good. It is hard to wait.

I got my results today and it is a colon cancer Met. I never thought I would be happy with that result. He says that it took six years to grow and has no lymph node involvement, so probably no chemo. Woohoo!

Re: Hoping fo Colon Cancer?

I am still waiting for the results and feeling impatient waiting for results and for the chest tube to be removed. I am ready to go home but they like to keep you in here. Patience is not one of my virtues!!

Hoping fo Colon Cancer?

Yesterday I went in for a wedge resection that ended up being a lobectomy. My surgeon says it is adenocarcinoma but not sure if it is a colon met or a primary lung nodule. I'll find out in the next few days. Doc says that CC is better because it took six years to grow my little passenger. Lung cance...

Re: Rectal case from Hong Kong

Mercy, have you considered the public hospitals? The fees are so much lower there. It would help ease the financial burden on the family.

Re: Rectal case from Hong Kong

Hi Mercy, I am in Hong Kong. I had a sigmoid tumour, so I did not have to have a colostomy. I understand your worries and concerns. Have you heard of the Hong Kong Cancer Fund? They offer many services for Cancer patients, survivors and families. They can often help with your question and connect yo...

Re: Bad Scan but no rush? Lung nodule - update

So today was my big day. I had quite a journey to get my PET scan. The airline cancelled my flight, I had to reschedule my PET scan, the insurance approval had lapsed and so on..... but I got it and all was sorted in time. Today I got my results. My little lung nodule is now 2cm big - 5 mm growth si...

Re: Bad Scan but no rush? Lung nodule

Hi Dan, My nodule is in the right apical lung. He said that we need a more accurate scan to see exactly where it is and how easy it might be to access. My CEA is low but it was never a marker for me. Apparently you run the risk of a lung collapse if you fly too soon after a biopsy or surgery. It is ...

Re: Bad Scan but no rush? Lung nodule

Hi Dan,

I am sorry to hear that. I know how we cherish every day that we are cancer free.

Can I ask, what is the treatment plan now? I am assuming that mine is definitely cancer - met or new primary, based on the report. I am more concerned about what happens once it is identified.

cheers,
SWS
