Re: omg this is the really hard part

Pollo, I'm with you all the way, just a few weeks ahead. After New Years I was in a "normal" hospital and not expected to leave. In Feb they had managed to stitch me back up and put in an illeostomy and when I was stable, I was moved to a "palliative" ward which everyone knew cou...

...although apparently it's been close a couple of times. I've finally made it home - I originally didn't want to die at home but the palliative clinic was 40 mins drive away and I just wasn't seeing my family. It's nice being home. Had a horrible shock in the mirror this morning, wondering who that...

ODTAA

So, the day before I'm supposed to be going home I hit a 39C fever, they decide in going yellow again and my liver stent needs changing. Supi Did that yesterday but they seem, rather than just a new stent, to have installed a "blinking great drain". Certainly if the sudden change of urine ...

Re: mCRC STAGE IV OR RECURRENT PATIENTS thread - ONGOING

So this is me, on my way out. I'll post it here rather than the main board. I won't re-run the details, but before Xmas I had significant rectal bleeding. Tests showed that my second dose of radiation had nuked everything and left behind a massive inflammation, within which tumor cells could still b...

Re: Oh POG! Unimaginable! share when you can

Aww, thanks for the concern guys, I'm touched. Ive been lurking but haven't felt up to posting much. I've been doing a full re-staging this week and last and was supposed to talk to my team today about the detailed plan ahead but, of course, the people who had promised to talk to each other, haven't...

Re: In the BLINK of an EYE- ***UPDATE***

Vicki, I've only been following this thread sporadically so when I pulled up the last page today for a catch-up and realised Mike had passed, I had to scroll back to find out when. It did mean I got to see some of those amazing stories you created for him though, like the final road trip. My deepest...

Re: 2014 member update -- for all of us--please post!

Well, Im alive, but only just. I may post the full story later, but the short version is - Had a severe infection in my rectum that started to bleed and wouldn't stop. And yes, I was in f$%§ing China. Do not, I repeat DO NOT get so ill you need to be hospitalised in China. Really. Lost approx. 1/3 o...

Re: Port issues

ive never had incoming issues but my port is used for blood draws too and it sometimes strikes on that. Ive done the coughing, the lifting the arm and the just waiting until the infusion is completed to try again. Sometimes it just doesn't want to

Christmas comes early for MiL

So off toddles my MiL for a breast cancer screening and low and behold, a shadow. Doesn't show up on all scans and invisible to ultrasound but something there. 3 month wait and see and rescan. Last week a rescan, definitely something there, nothing to be felt but it's definitely not clear. First bio...

Re: BUTT HURT

I am so feeling your pain. my current Irinotecan Tx is blocking me up something chronic and until the "dam breaks" two or three days after infusion I go through hell. Im also a martyr to acidic stool, rectal tears and fissures and just general overuse. Ow. Luckily my wife has some good nar...

Re: Help Please!

Although the "classic" irinotecan side effects are severe diarrhea, I get the exact opposite ie constipation for two to three days after infusion. I don't get sever cramps but I do get occasional bouts of crampy pain. I tend to get frequent urges that involve a lot of straining but only re...

Re: Missed you all

It may not be any use now, but those "ransom" worms are usually fairly straightforward to deal with using a Linux live recovery CD. I had one a while back and after some research online (via another laptop) actually killing the ransom thing took about 10mins. You do need another laptop and...

Re: Hospital diet

I was NPO while in the ICU, then liquids only for two or three days. I then made the acquaintance of what the Germans call Milk Soup" which is a kind of very thin, milk-based porridge. At the time, like BB says, I was glad of even that, but having tasted it while healthy, it's revolting slop.

Interesting. I get exactly what your DH gets- no or low appetite and no desire to even nibble because everything tastes nasty. I'll look out for that med. Glad it worked for hubby.
