Re: Stage 2 Colon Cancer, Lynch, and doing Chemo

I am also a stage 2a colon cancer. As I was told by my oncologist they look for a few high risk traits to see if chemo would benefit. Perineural invasion , lymphvascular invasion, T4 tumor, and grade. I had some high risk factors so there was NO DOUBT at all. I had the full folfox treatments. Went 9...

Re: Exactly one year tommorow the cancer was removed

Victoria, I can't believe how fast the year has gone! I was too diagnosed on October 10, 2011 but I didn't have my resection until December 13th because of the genetic testing. Hoping for a great 2013 for all of us!!! I finished chemo in June and it almost seems like a distant memory. Until my scans...

Re: how to choose between 2 surgeons

I did not have the surgeon you are referring to but I have heard good things about him from other patients. I believe you probably have rectal cancer from what I read where I had colon. I do think with rectal it is very important because of the location that you have a colorectal specialist. There c...

Just want to let you know that I had my surgery at Sloan and would be happy to share my experience with you. I tried to message you but I am not sure it went through. You can message me if you would like.

Re: Greasy hair?

One other thing is that my hair texture really changed a lot on folfox. I finished the end of June and my hair has returned to normal already.

Re: Greasy hair?

Lara, When I was going through my chemo my hair was more dry than anything. Just remember everyone is so different with the effects it can cause. Chemo is messing with all your cells so anything is possible. I didn't get the bags under my eyes but I did get a really swollen red face (I think the ste...

Re: RixinPhx passed away today

I have not been on this club that long but what I did see was this man who was so compassionate to answer so many questions while he was fighting so hard. It really breaks my heart that this crappy disease takes so many good people. My sympathy to the family.

Re: Curious

In the beginning from my diagnosis to surgery I too felt like I was in a fog. Just going through the motions (blood work, ct scans, dr visits, etc. After my surgery one day in the hospital I really took a good look and just couldn't believe it. But I went on through the chemo for 6 months and I did ...

Re: Chemo for stage III, what to expect?

Lara, Everyone is so different as to the side effects of the chemo. I just finished the 6 months and while it wasn't easy by any means it wasn't totally unbearable. I was very lucky and had no nausea at all but you will want to wait and see what foods appeal to him. I was left with a really bad tast...

I try to stay really busy. I have been doing a lot of walking and I have started running too. But I most enjoy watching my kids play soccer. I forget about all the crappy cancer stuff when I watch them play. Love your pictures Kyle they are beautiful!!

Re: More Anxiety - what can I do?

I am sure any of us diagnosed with cancer understand your anxiety. Ativan and Xanax was my best friend for a while. I am not in your situation but maybe feel some peace that you are going to one of the top cancer hospitals and doing all you can. I went to MSKCC and feel I gave myself the best care I...

Re: need advice for hubby...to get things moving along..

Lara,

I walked a lot and also I was on a low fat low fiber diet for a month or two. The oatmeal has a lot of fiber so that could be causing it. I also heard chewing gum gets things moving along. I never tried the gum but I have heard it helps. Hope he gets some relief soon.

Re: O/T Maybe if I look at this 2nd bottle of Mg++...

My first and only (so far) colonoscopy that I was diagnosed with my colon cancer was with the suprep. That was horrible and tasted like salty crap!! I almost puked drinking the second bottle. With my surgery I did the miralax prep and that was alot better. My next colonoscopy is in November and the ...
