Re: rectal cancer, lasting effects

Matt, I'm a 5-1/2yr IIIC rectal cancer survivor. The bathroom issues were really tough at first butt they seemed to normalize a little as time goes on.(what is normal??) I really tried to watch the amt of fiber I ate at first because too much would put me in the bathroom all day. Fiber supplements f...

Re: Follow-up Chemo before or after re-hookup???

I had a temporary colostomy after surgery from an abscess and too needed further chemo. The bowel issues from the oxaliplatin were much easier to handle with the colostomy, the got the reversal after chemo. Good luck, Beth

Re: Stage IIIC rectal cancer - survival/recurrence

Karma, I am a 5 year and 3month survivor of stage IIIC rectal cancer, I had a low ant. resection and I DO NOT have a colostomy. Unless your tumor is totally gone after radiation and chemo the best chance of survival would be surgery to remove the rest of the tumor in my opinion. I also had 5/29 lymp...

Re: Chemo Pump - annoying!

Hi Nanette, I went to the fabric store and bought 2 peices of foam about 1-1/2 inches thick and took a glue gun and glued around 3 sides and kept the one of the long sides open and would put the pump in there at night and set it on a chair next to the bed. It had a pretty long length of tubing so it...

Re: Kytril vs Zofran vs Marijuana

I swore by Ativan during tx when all else failed.....the only drawback was the 2-3 hour nap after taking it.......but was good at bedtime. Correct me if I'm wrong on this but is not the whole idea behind smoking pot to 'get high'????? Stay strong, Beth

Re: Rectal cancer-bowel function 1 1/2 years after takedown

Dottie, I'm 4 years out and am sorry to say, me fears it will never be 'normal' again, it really can't because most of the rectum is gone. i can honestly that it has improved greatly from the first year or so. I use Lomotil on those days when I can't get out of the bathroom, and on the days when i d...
