Re: When do we give up?

Hi -- As you can see by my signature line, I'm not an active participant here, but I do check in from time to time. I saw your post, and really saw the similarities to our situation - 3 kids (ours are 13,10 and 9) Significant liver involvement SIRT as an option(??) LIMITED support locally (there wer...

Re: end??????

Matthew - I understand that this is an intensely difficult time for you and your wife. I can relate --on February 7 my husband went for his "normal" 3 mile run in the morning, went to work for a full day, and that night began "going downhill" We talked to the Onc NP on Wednesday ...

Re: Wives of husbands with Stage IV Colon Freaking Cancer

Diane - My deepest condolences as you and your children begin this phase of the journey. Faith is a wonderful thing -- we believe that Jim too is in heaven, watching over his children and living in the light. (From my 9 year old upon seeing jet contrails in the sky..) "Look Mom -- Dad is really...

Re: Permanent Colostomy - Quality of Life

Hi -I normally have been posting on the "Wives of Stage IV..." thread, but saw this. My father had a permanent colostomy in 1988 (yes, 24 years ago). It hasn't stopped him from doing anything, except for one mission trip to Haiti after the earthquake because he was worried about bathroom f...

Re: Wives of husbands with Stage IV Colon Freaking Cancer

Hi - It's been a week since I posted - 8 days since Jim passed away. We were blessed to have a wonderful team for his last hours in the hospital. Jim was able to tell the kids goodbye, and write/dictate notes to each of them. He was also able to see and connect with a childhood friend who happened t...

Re: Wives of husbands with Stage IV Colon Freaking Cancer

Jen, I wanted to ask you if it would be ok to put your news in the main forum so that everyone can pray, send helpful thoughts, etc to you? I don't want to do anything without your permission. Niki Of course Nikki - we would appreciate anyone and everyone's prayers. I am sitting here by Jim trying ...

Re: Wives of husbands with Stage IV Colon Freaking Cancer

Friends and sisters - THis so totally sucks, there's no words that can even come close. Jim is in the hospital with a perforation, abscesses, and severe edema. Because of the cancer, they can't open him up to address the infections. Because of the infections, we can't continue treatment. Our team ha...

Re: Wives of husbands with Stage IV Colon Freaking Cancer

Pagal1 - I agree that some of the most important conversations take place in the car. I've been know to take the "really" long way around just because one of my kids was sharing something. Telling the kids is taking on a new urgency -- and it's going to be up to me. As I type this, we are ...

Re: Wives of husbands with Stage IV Colon Freaking Cancer

Good evening ladies! I haven't posted for a while as we have been wrestling with options (and the lack thereof). I think I mentioned a couple of weeks ago that chemo was cancelled on the 17th, as Jim's CEA had progressed from ~2300 to ~5200 since Christmas. At that point, it was decided that Xelox+A...

Re: kids of colon cancer parents

My father was dx at 49, and my husband at 46. We were told that our kids need to start at 30 (like I did) since they have history on both sides -- since our oldest is 13, they have a ways to go! :)
