Re: Health Insurance Help

Crystal, I work in Payroll,so I wanted to clarify that FMLA is actually 12 weeks times 40 hours and it can be taken intermittently, so if your can work at least half time, that stretches out the FMLA time period, it’s not just 12 weeks. Our company must be super generous, we allow people to miss the...

Re: Looking for HIPEC Experiences

This is a blog I found awhile back of a woman with gastric cancer. I would definitely consult another oncologist for another opinion!

Re: My mom diagnosed with colorectal cancer

Deb--I live in Omaha. You could see about your mom going to UNMC. That is a university research hospital and I know others who have been treated there. It's in Omaha. PM me for the name of an oncologist/surgeon. I think you don't need to go to Mayo, your mom can get treatment close to home. My daugh...

Re: Alarming symptoms (constipation, long term pencil stool)

Do you eat products with a lot of sugar? I cut sweets and sweet tea from my diet and that fixed my constipation issue. Laxatives didn't work that well for me. I tested it too and if I drink sweet tea, I have issues again. Just though I'd suggest thAt.

Re: Mom of an adult with Stage 4 CRC

Hi Janet from another Janet! I had same situation. We live in Nebraska, our daughter lived in Dallas. She was living with a boyfriend when diagnosed but then that didn't last so she was single and alone. Lots of good friends who provided support and we made lots of trips to Texas. I'd be happy to gi...

Re: Back on the panic train!

Lydia, funny story, when my daughter was about a year out from diagnosis she had red in her stool and went to the ER. Tests revealed it was not blood but food dye. Them she remembered she had eaten red velvet cake.

So hopefully yours is the same kind of silly thing!

Re: On a Dime

My 25 year old daughter was diagnosed the same way--trip to ER. She lived 10 hours away from us. She had been used to living on her own. You will just have to be there when your son needs you but let him make his own decisions. One thing he may need advice on. . . .he must be sure to keep health ins...

Re: Signet Ring Cell Cancer of the Sigmoid Colon

Hi Becky! My daughter had signet ring cell. I've done a lot of research on it. My advice for you is to stay on top of all your appointments and testing. It can be aggressive, that's true. Just make sure to get your scans in, fight your insurance company if you have to. I believe SRC can be a chronic...

Re: Pretty sure I have hereditary colon cancer

I've never heard of this disease and it's unlikely you have it. But--is there some kind of genetic testing you can get? That would put your mind at ease. Also online it says dentists can diagnose this. Have you talked with your dentist? Don't drive yourself sick worrying, get some answers.

Re: 3 cancers- looking for positive stories

Will they test for signet ring cell? My moms bc went to her liver but it was bc cells.

The good news is that breast cancer has new treatments and is very close to being a chronic illness. Our family volunteers for Komen and so many new advances right now.

Keep on fighting!

Re: Evolution of breast cancer

My mom died from bc. Three times I've had something weird show up on mammograms and had ultrasound, mri and even 2 biopsies and it was nothing. There's a lot of false positives on mammograms. but--with signet ring cell, that is aggressive and it can spread to breast tissue, so definitely best to che...

Re: CEA Levels >6000

When my daughter was diagnosed hers was super high, like 4500. I thought she had heard wrong because on this board no one mentioned numbers that high but she was right. After surgery and chemo hers went to normal and never elevated again even when she knew she had peritoneal mets. But for her CA19-9...
