Re: 15 year celebration on April 20th!

Thanks. I originally posted this a year ago. I'm now 16 years from my surgery and 17 years (6/22) from my date of diagnosis. It's amazing the little things that you forget. This past school year, another staff member was also dxd with rectal cancer. I remember telling him about the oxi side effects,...

Re: Worried about spread to my bones? (leg pain) ???

First of all welcome.....sorry though that you had to join our group, but still glad you have found us. Right now I am experiencing exactly what you are talking about. I already have a knee issue which makes the back of my knee feel like there is a knot/lump there and my hamstrings hurt like heck. T...

Re: When does one no longer need scans?

I can only give you my experience with CEA. When I was dxd in 2006, I had a big rectal tumor but my CEA was only 0.5....normal limits with the test at that time were 0-3. So, if someone were to have relied solely on my CEA levels, they would have said I was perfectly normal. It's common for your CEA...

Re: Pre op vs post op “help”

Welcome, First of all I'm sorry you have to be here. You'll find a lot of information. A quick couple of questions. 1. Have you had a CT or PET scan yet? That should be done before anything else. 2. Did the surgeon indicate that this was an emergency? Is the tumor blocking your intestine. 3. You ind...

Re: 2 precancerous polyps need help interpreting pathology

You are correct.....hyperplastic and serrated polyps are NOT the same. In addition, hyperplastic polyps almost never become cancerous. I've had 1 or 2 removed in the last 16 years. My colorectal surgeon who does my scopes doesn't see the need in sending them to pathology but I insist...if nothing el...

15 year celebration on April 20th!

April 20th marked 15 years to the day from my surgery which also happened to be my last treatment. My hubby surprised me at work by bringing in two cakes (chocolate with bavarian cream filling and white with raspberry) to share with my fellow teachers. (I work at an elementary school). He had the ba...

Question for those who have undergone radiation for rectal cancer

I know that things have changed since I was diagnosed and underwent my treatment. Right now, I have a friend who was recently diagnosed with rectal cancer. His protocol includes 4 rounds of XELOX prior to radiation and then (I assume) 28 - 30 days of radiation. When I was in treatment, they didn't d...

Re: 3rd covid vaccine

I had very little issue with the booster but I have to tell you I HATED the Shingrix vaccine. I even waited a year between them because of the awful reaction I had. What booster will you get? I got mine because I work in an elementary school. We are constantly having kiddos have to quarantine. I've ...

Re: 3rd covid vaccine

I got my booster on 10/23/2021. Same as the first time.....Moderna. I wasn't going to mix and match especially since the data coming out all shows that Moderna's efficacy doesn't wane as much as Pfizer's or the J & J. Again I had a headache and an hour or so of muscle aches (woke me up) but got ...

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!!!

I just realized that I hadn't posted my usual Happy 4th of July post. My first stab at it this year was rather morose...dealing with COVID and how the virus has changed so much. Instead..let's go back to the old days...and share with the friends on the board how we are all celebrating! That used to ...

Re: pT1/pT2 What option to take?

I just saw this post so I have no idea what, if any, decision you have made. If you look at my signature, I chose what appears to be pretty close to what you refer to as option 3. I did 28 days of radiation followed by more chemo...and had my excision 8 months later. There were a few bumps along the...

Re: Covid 19 vaccine

So, had dose #2 of Moderna yesterday afternoon. Headache started within 10 minutes and some lightheadeness...following the exact same pattern after my first dose. Headache was BAD last night and Tylenol barely touched it. BTW...no Tylenol or ibuprofen for six hours after injection. That was fun! A f...

Re: Covid 19 vaccine

Beckster, Hopefully this will help calm your fears a bit. I, too, had an allergic reaction to oxi after the first does....and nothing from my first COVID shot other than a slight headache and lightheadedness. I am also allergic to some darn many drugs.....some give me a horrible rash but most give m...

Re: Covid 19 vaccine

I had my first shot of the Moderna vaccine this past Thursday. A slight headache and some minor lightheadedness. However, to be fair, I didn't get much sleep the night before and due to an early 'Mom, my car broke down...can you help'.....I didn't have anything to eat before I had to run out the doo...
