Re: Trial Etiquette

Marilyn,

Glad he got accepted :) It sounds like his schedule is going to be a lot like mine. It makes for long days during the first cycle but hopefully won't be too bad once his PK's wrap up.

Do you have a pointer to the trial he's on? I'd like to check it out.

Thanks,
--Mike

Re: Trial Etiquette

Here's the link to the trial: http://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT01016860 OSI-906 and Irinotecan in Patients With Advanced Cancer. It's a phase IB trial so I'm guaranteed to get the study drug.I'm hoping that since FOLFIRI worked well in the past (for a while), that Irinotecan will be effective i...

Trial Etiquette

So I'm back after being NED for six months. I built my strength back up and was starting to almost forget about cancer until the scan results came in. I'll be starting a trial next week and I'm wondering if I can share my experiences during the trial here. Do the drug companies place a gag rule as a...

Re: What to drink during chemo?

Gatorade worked for me. There are a couple of flavors to alternate between if you get sick of one of them. I couldn't get enough.

Re: New member, st. IV

Karen, I'm sorry to hear that you have so much to deal with. Everyone here has a lot to cope with, and we all deal with it in different ways. You will find your way too. I had similar feelings. I'm a father of three little boys (Hank turned 5 today!) and the thought of dying made me feel like I woul...

I was 46 when I found out I had cancer. I'm 47 now, and NED. It can happen. Keep your chin up :)

Re: Starting Folfiri as 2nd line approach

I did Folfiri as second line therapy after Xelox failed. I never got a positive response from Xelox. Anyway, Folfiri worked well and I think, overall, it was easier than Folfox. I had lots of problems with the Big D and pretty much ate Lomotil like it was chicklets. At one point I even had to go int...

Survivor

So I've been finished with treatment for about a month now. People are starting to refer to me as a survivor. I'm not sure exactly what a survivor is and how I feel about the label. Anybody have a point of view they'd like to share? Do you call yourself a survivor?

Re: Does anyone work while on Erbitux and Irotecan

I haven't done Erbitux (I'm KRAS mutant) but I did work through FOLFIRI which contains Irinotecan. The main problems were going to the bathroom a lot. Many false alarms where I just farted and then went back to work. Also, very tired and some body aches. Nausea was manageable with Zofran & Compa...

Re: hoarseness on Folfiri - any tips?

I get that too. I always just thought of it as a secondary side effect. The chemo causes my counts to go low, then the hoarseness kicks in because I'm weak from the chemo. I have so much other stuff going on I guess I haven't really paid attention to a pattern of what days it happens and how long it...

I'm so sorry to hear about John's passing. He was a great guy and an incredible fighter. When I lack courage, I look to those on this board and John was always an inspiration.

Re: Adjuvant Chemo Question

One quick point my Onc made that I thought was interesting. Adjuvant therapy works best for those that benefit the most from neo-adjuvant therapy. So if the response has been great and you get the pathology report back to find little or nothing there, you might think you don't need it but you'd be w...
