Re: New to forum, rectal cancer, must make surgery choice -- help!

I was diagnosed in 7/10 with "early stages" rectal cancer. Due to my young age of 43, I was reluctant to have the major surgery which would most likely result in a permanent colostomy due to the location of the tumor. I opted for the TEM which I had in 8/10. Unfortunately, the path report ...

Re: 3C Diagnosis...any realistic hope?

Scotty - I'm a IIIc RC survivor for 2.5 years and counting! Diagnosis in 7/10, surgery in 11/10 followed by 4 rounds of FOLFOX, 28 radiation treatments concurrent with 5FU topped off with another serving of 4 rounds of FOLFOX. The worst part for me was the radiation treatements and I had some severe...

Re: Adjuvant Chemo for Rectal Cancer - how many rounds

I had surgery first followed by 4 rounds of folfox, 28 radiation treatments concurrently with 5fu. The toxicity of both was too much, however so the 5fu was dropped so that I could get all 28 radiation treatments without ending up in the hospital. After the radiation, I received another 4 rounds of ...

Re: OT Administrators and Moderators

Diane - This is a great idea and should apply to all posters. As you state, It's hard for me to accept advice from someone if I am unsure they have walked in my shoes or are a professional in that area. Your point is exactly why I was bothered by Fede's signature. It was only just recently that I le...

Re: Questions/Opinion over surgery options

Hi! I'm sorry you have joined our club but glad you found us to answer your questions. I didn't find the club until after I had started down this path. I was diagnosed with Rectal Cancer in 7/10 after 3 colonoscopies (May, June & July). My surgeon recommended the Transanal Endoscopic Microsurger...

Re: Permanent Colostomy - Quality of Life

I want to add my 2 cents in this discussion of the permanent colostomy. When I met with my surgeon before my 11/10 surgery, I was VERY concerned about having a permanent colostomy. You see, my late grandfather had colon cancer and a permanent colostomy in June 1975. I grew up with him having this &q...

Re: Surviving radiation for rectal cancer

David - I'm so sorry that you are going through this! I, too, suffered sever skin burning due to radiation treatment. It was excrutiating; however, I "fortunately" have a colostomy so I didn't experience the "razor blades" or the "hot lava". It was definitely one advant...

There are just no words. It is incredible to me how close you can get to people when we all belong to the same "club". The members of the club are great, but the membership fees are just too high! My heart aches for JMarie and her family. May they always have her presence in their hearts. ...

O/T - Happy Stomaversary!

In honor of my one-year "stomaversary" Dear Stella, It has been one year since we met. Oh what a year it has been! We anxiously awaited your arrival which was clouded in mystery. We didn’t even know how long you were going to be here. Would it be just a few months? Would you stay forever? ...
