RIP Mirko Jurkovic

It is with great sadness I report former Notre Dame football great and Chicago Bear Mirko Jurkovic lost his 28-month battle with colon cancer today at the too young age of 42. Although he was residing in Indiana Mirko will be fondly remember as the quintessential Chicago guy. He leaves behind a wife...

Re: Stage 2a - Anyone did not do chemo? Or did chemo w/o Oxi

I was staged as 2A as well. I chose to do 12 rounds of FOLFOX due to the low number of lymph nodes analyzed and my desire to everything I possibly could to minimize the chances of recurrence. I stopped the Oxi after treatment #9. Chemotherapy is no walk in the park but it is manageable. I knew going...

Re: Our Sweet Terry

I am very sad to hear the news. Terry was one of the first to welcome me here.

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace.

2 year cancerversary

Two years ago today I went in for a colonoscopy thinking nothing was wrong and woke up with my doctor showing my wife a sketch of my large intestine with a circle drawn on it and her in tears. Today I raise a glass and toast those who are NED, say a prayer for everyone who is battling the beast, and...

Re: Neuropathy and finger stick blood test

After surgery I developed a DVT in my right leg that required I be on Coumadin throughout chemotherapy. After about treatment #4 the finger sticks started hurting very bad. I had my nurse draw the blood for the test from the veins in my arms using a small syringe. No pain at all there.

Re: Saw an Eagle

What a great way to start your day. Eagles in the wild are truly a sight. I saw my first eagle up close just last year while snowmobiling in the U. P. It was standing on the trail as we approached and at first I thought it was a dog it was so darn big.
