9-year stage 2A survivor

I haven't posted in quite a while, but wanted to give a short update. Nine years ago this afternoon I had a right hemicolectomy for stage 2 colon cancer. After the surgery, doctors determined in was grade 3. I had three rounds of chemo, then stopped after a specialist at Cleveland Clinic determined ...

Re: Lynch Syndrome

I am 100% in favor of you getting tested for Lynch. I was diagnosed with it about eight years ago following bouts with both colon and uterine cancer. These two distinct, primary cancers were found five months apart. My daughter, who is now 25, was tested when she was 18 and her test was positive. Sh...

Re: 2 cancers- genetic testing

I was 43 when diagnosed with uterine cancer. After my sister did a bunch of research, she bugged me to get a colonoscopy after I healed from the radiation and surgery. (My grandmother and father both died from colon cancer.) So four months after my hysterectomy, I had a colonoscopy and eventually wa...

6 years! :-)

Six years ago today I woke up from my first-ever colonoscopy and heard the doctor tell me those dreaded words. Today I am cancer-free and things are going great! I have Lynch Syndrome and dealt with uterine cancer five months before the colon cancer diagnosis. I had a right hemicolectomy and had 54 ...

Re: Story on Stage 4 patient

Yes you are correct. I should have noted it started as cervical but is now Stage 4 because it's in her sigmoid colon. Thank you.

Story on Stage 4 patient

I am a fan of Joey and Rory and I read this article today. She has Stage 4 colon cancer. The article is so beautifully written I just wanted to share: http://thislifeilive.com/enough/

Re: what do the terms msh6 and other means and chemo required or not

The terms mean you're Lynch Syndrome (HNPCC) positive. I am too. This is very important to know when you have discussions with your oncologist about chemo. There are studies that show certain chemo at Stage 2A (which I was too) doesn't offer any benefit. Please make sure you ask specifically about t...

Re: When do you stop seeing oncologist?

Thank you for your reply! I have yearly scopes because I have Lynch Syndrome. I also have endoscopies every three years. The oncologist stopped the CT scans so I've been CT scan-less for about a year and a half. Even when I had a full-blown tumor my CEA was below 2, so it's not a good indicator for ...

When do you stop seeing oncologist?

I am five and a half years NED with colon cancer and six years NED with uterine cancer. I see my colon cancer oncologist soon and just wondering if-and when-there's an end to the 10-minute check-ups. I have no pain, no problems, get a colonoscopy every year and am followed by other doctors. When is ...

Re: 21 years old sessile polyp?

Hi. If you have any family history of colon, uterine, kidney or bladder cancer, make sure you ask your doctor about the possibility of Lynch Syndrome.

Re: Colectomy + hysterectomy?

Julie-my advice, especially if you are Lynch positive, is get the hysterectomy. Yes, you will hit menopause at 100 mph and that's not fun, but if you have Lynch, the risk of uterine cancer is very high. I was 43 when diagnosed with uterine cancer, followed by a colon cancer diagnosis five months lat...

Re: Hemi Vs. Semi colectomy

Hello! Welcome to the board. I am Lynch positive and was diagnosed at age 43 with a right-sided tumor. Ended up stage 2A and had a right hemi-colectomy. I hadn't officially been diagnosed as having Lynch when it was time for my surgery, but my doctor did discuss removing my colon. We decided since I...

Re: Lynch Syndrome 2013, just diagnosed colon cancer

Hello! I am 48 and was diagnosed with endometrial cancer at age 43, followed by colon cancer a few months later. Just celebrated my five year mark on the uterine and will reach the milestone for colon cancer on Dec. 4. I also have Lynch. My grandmother and father both died of colon cancer. I have fi...

Re: Why Prep Amount Not Tailored to Your Size!!

I always wondered that too. While I am heavier than you, I am missing half my colon due to my resection. The last few years I've managed to get 7 of the 8 glasses down, which was more than adequate.

Re: 27 - sessile serrated polyp

Your GI doctor didn't think you should be tested for Lynch? You are only 27 and have had the flat polyps, which tend to be indicative of Lynch, plus your father was diagnosed at a relatively young age. Is there any other colon, uterine or gastric cancers on that side of the family? Please meet with ...
