Re: Bev G

Another member of the old guard chiming in here (I was a caregiver). Bev has been on my mind nonstop since I heard the news from our dear friend Phuong here. Be forewarned that I've given up hope of having a somewhat coherent or organized post about it. I agree with everything the more eloquent folk...

permission to show up and shut up

I rarely post anymore but hope this expression of thought into words captures something you may have been looking for, especially for the newly diagnosed or caregivers for the newly diagnosed. https://youtu.be/QuaIMgzIOn8 In written form: http://articles.latimes.com/2013/apr/07/opinion/la-oe-0407-si...

Re: Approaching the End...

Sorry, I missed the part about the steroid sensitivity. My mom did beautifully on decadron but had very unusual effects with benadryl (not a steroid). As others have said, focus on the hospice team and make very sure that they are aware of her decadron sensitivity. They will handle it from there. Yo...

Re: Approaching the End...

Hi Petit83, How wonderful for you to be there with her for her appointment. I can't comment on localized or whole-brain irradiation since we didn't go that route (brain met occurred after long-time stable lung mets and we were referred straight to hospice with steroids and pain meds). The steroids k...

Ode to Bev

I tried calling you a few minutes ago but your voicemail is full so I'll have to be more public about what I wanted to say :D It would be an oversimplification of many aspects of the story to say congratulations on being 'cured.' So, instead, I wanted to say that I'm happy to know you're five years ...

Re: Remembering Pat (Gaelen)

Thanks for posting this. I knew what today was and I'm glad we can still pay some tribute a year later. I remember when she gave me a strong electronic pep talk back in April 2011 (in addition to all the usual wisdom, of course) and am comforted that part of her legacy is 'searchable' in the post hi...

missing Gaelen

I don't have much I can express that well but I remember it was almost today last year that our Pat stopped treatment and never went back to MSKCC. I miss her in many ways.
