Checkmark in the good news column

Just wanted to drop by to say Tyler had a scan yesterday after his last one was 18 mos ago. In the last couple months, he'd had some pain in his right side and this last appt we brought it up. Doc said we could do a scan since it had been so long since the last one. The scan was fine, doc said. Noth...

Boring as far as cancer patients go...

Just wanted to check in with everyone and let you know that I read the board weekly and pray for those still traveling the rough road. My prayers and best to you all for peace. I know I'm not a familiar face around here but for those who remember Tyler and I, a little Tyler update: he saw his onc in...

Re: For those following Steve's story UPDATE 10/1 :-(

Bev, you are one of the sweetest people I've ever not met. :) And I have been lurking reading your posts to keep up with Steve's journey. I am sorry for the rough patch you and your family are going through. My prayers and best to you all.

Re: Please....Need Help From Ones with Lymph Node Involvemen

Just wanted to weigh in positively on the lymph node involvement. As you can see in the signature, Tyler had several recurrences and all in the lymph nodes behind his stomach. Chemo worked a couple times, then radiation as a last resort sent them packing for good. He had a clean scan in Mar '11 and ...

Re: Lymph node under chin "Updated at end"

Just wanted to let you guys know how this turned out. We saw the ENT specialist at University of Missouri and he immediately said surgery was indicated. Tyler will have the whole gland removed with stones on May 15th. They did a CT scan and chest x-ray and we hope to get those results soon. Thanks y...

Re: Lymph node under chin

Diane, things are not fixed, but we do know for certain that it's not cancer and it IS stones, note plural. The U/S report stated that he has at least 4 calcifications that measure 5-6mm. And that's the good news, at least we know for sure. However, the bad news is they expect him to excrete them hi...

Re: Lymph node under chin

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. We saw another primary in the office and he believes it is a salivary gland stone. Tyler is having an ultrasound this afternoon to make sure. The dr thinks it will be too big to pass and may need surgery to remove it. We'll see.

Re: Lymph node under chin

Skypup, we tried our dentist and he referred us to Ty's onc. Said we should definitely see him first. We also tried Ty's regular ENT and he pawned us off too. The onc gave him some antibiotic and said see an ENT, which we thought was weird because it is right where he always checks during his "...

Lymph node under chin "Updated at end"

This is kind of crazy and out of the blue. About two weeks ago, Tyler started saying his neck/gland hurt on the left side. (A little back history: he had a gland removed in the '80's on the left side and then produced a stone in the '90's that he excreted on his own.) In the span of two weeks, he ha...

Re: Stage 4 Survivors - Can you update us on your progress

Most of my husband's info is in the sig lines, but the brief synopsis is: dx Aug 2009 Stage IV, surgery, recurrence to lymph nodes, chemo, NED, recurrence to lymph nodes, more chemo, NED, new tumor near duodenum, chemo, still tumor, finally radiation in Jan. 2011 as a last resort. They gave it rough...

Re: Request for chickens UPDATE 2/18

I don't sign in very often anymore, but I do check the boards before I start work everyday. Bev, I am praying for you and your husband. This treatment sounds promising and I wish you both the very best. I don't have any chickens on the property, but maybe 9 dogs doing the biscuit twirl might spread ...

Re: "Helicopter" caregiving

I like to think my "helicopter" caregiving is in love, but I have said to my husband when my theory proved to be right, after the fact of course, that I was right. In the moment, I don't get in his face to say those things, but I have been known to gloat just a bit after everything has cal...

Re: Anyone who has had your port more than 3 years...

Bev G, Ty has had his port since 09/09 and except for the initial pain of the placement, has had no issues with it. Doc says we can talk about removing it when he's 5 years NED. He'll be NED two years this March. We have it flushed about every six months with no problems so far. Just our two cents. ...

OT: Ty's Dad

This post is OT because Ty's dad suffers from prostate cancer. And by suffer, I mean for the last 6-8 years he has battled. The first two years were really tough, but never life threatening. He had all the usual stuff done, removed the cancer, the male testosterone inducing parts radiated and for a ...
