'Oh, that scar . . . That's where they implanted the tracking chip which was a condition of my release from the hospital for the criminally insane. Yeah, I darn near killed the last guy that asked me too many personal questions." Best said holding your head at an odd angle, and sort of staring off i...

Reversal

Hi Shel28, I had my colon resection on 01/16/06 with a temporary ileostomy, which was reversed 05/04/06. My hospital stay for the reversal was 5 days and was very easy compared to the stay for the initial surgery. Mostly, they want to make sure you can process solid food 'normally'. The first time I...

The high cost of feeling low

Hi all. Stage I colon cancer diagnosed 12/05, colon resection 01/06 with temporary ileostomy which was reversed 05/06. No chemo, no major complications post surgery (there were some complications during the actual operation). I did have an ileus (small intestine blockage) which took about 10 days to...

I was still foggy from the anesthesia when the doctor came up to my bedside and said "Mr. H, I'm afraid I have some bad news." He proceeded to tell me he removed 4 polyps, 2 of which were tiny and nothing unusual. Two of them were larger, one of them being golf ball size, and which 'didn't look good...

Well, I guess I am the poster boy for laproscopic colon resection surgery gone wrong. My surgeon was skilled enough, and had done numerous lap surgeries before with excellent results. But the #$%#^ doctor who did my original colonoscopy apparently had charted the location of my cancerous polyp incor...

About three years ago, a good friend and former co-worker of my wife started calling up to chat, sometimes, literally, for hours. She had moved about 75 miles from our local area, and her excuse was that she had excess time on her cell phone plan which she had to 'use it or lose it'. It was nice the...

Hi Deb, My deepest condolences on the loss of your son. There is no greater tragedy than a parent having to bury a child. And now the devastating news that your newly-wed daughter has the same diagnosis. Life can be so unfair. On the upside: Yes! Medical advances are being made constantly, making yo...

Hi LuckieMe, "You can lead a horse to water but you can't make her drink." You can beg, plead, cajole, weep, shout, jump up and down, shake, rattle, and roll but the decision is ultimately up to your sister to take some action. She is certainly aware of what you have been and are going through, and ...

Diet guidelines as given by my reversal surgeon: Try to follow a high fiber, low fat diet. Eat whole grain breads and cereals, try to stay away from butter, eleo, oils and all fats. Strive to get 20 minutes or more of exercise every day. You may have some trouble digesting some items in the future, ...

Oh, and I forgot this in my earlier post: Try an anti-gas remedy like Mylanta liquid, or tablets with simethecone (after checking with your physician, of course). They did take away some of the gassiness for me, which made me feel the urge to poop less often. My surgeon actually suggested this to me.

Hi Nick, I am a 54 year old male, had 28 cm of colon removed 01-16-06 with a temporary ileostomy installed. Ileostomy was reversed 05-01-06, and like you and Tammy Figg, it took a few weeks for my digestive system to re-learn its proper cues. Frequent urges to go, every hour or two, followed by a pu...

My ileostomy experience

I was diagnosed with CC in Dec. '05, had a bowel resection in Jan. '06 and a temporary ileostomy done at the same time. (There were complications during the surgery. It started out as a laproscopic procedure, but the cancerous polyp was not where the doctor that did the initial colonoscopy had it ch...

Hi Edward, There is another suspected cancer cluster in Muhlenberg Township, just east of Reading, PA. It seems to be centered around the highschool, which apparently was built over a dumping site for several (car) battery manufacturing plants. The crushed battery boxes/casings are thought to be a p...

Hi LA8, Try not to take it personally when people say they're sorry. They actually mean well when they say that. Society teaches us to express sympathy using those two words when we hear that someone else, who we might not know overly well, has had some bad news in their life. Your purse was stolen?...
