Re: Stage 3, likelihood of recurrence after resection & chemotherapy

Just wandered back on here after a long absence.

fyi I was stage III with T4 tissue invasion back in 2007. I hope your experience with recovery is as good as mine has been. Prayers for you and family.

Stage IIIb, T4 tissue invasion. 12 yrs ago.

I begin by communicating my honor and respect for those who are engaged in the cancer battle. It is a tough road no matter if you are patient, caregiver, or just someone involved. I lived through that battle which was the roughest of my life. And it was rough on my wife and family. But I am posting ...

Re: those of you with a colostomy

I didn't see a description of what kind of work he does. For most jobs, I believe you can work around any colostomy issues, except for unexpected and unwanted "noise." I do irrigation, which helps cut down on "noise," but it doesn't stop it. If your husband does sales presentatio...

Re: Facing a permanent stoma

The immediate post-surgery time is a challenge. Surrounding tissue is wounded, and you need to adhere to it, or very close. The band-aid approach seems good. I just gritted through with the wafer only, wish I had thought of the band-aid. Once you are past the wounded tissue, another trick is to heat...

Re: Facing a permanent stoma

The most important thing is to realize *you* must be the quarterback on where this gets marked. You take input from others, then make decisions. Sorry if that sounds obvious but it is important. I went for stoma marking only doing an average amount of research. So the nurse did marking, using a tatt...

Darkness,

I was surprised to read you had no chemo and no radiation. Lucky you!

If that typical protocol now for your staging? Or did you decide or decline either of them?

Re: Can Stages go backwards post surgery?

You definitely can be backstaged after surgery as more precise information is learned through the surgery.

I was diagnosed IIIB, then backstaged to II after surgery. Even though I had T4 tissue invasion.

I'm honored to be here with you

I read the threads here, and admire so much about the people who participate in this forum. The courage of people. The courage of families of people. And the untiring willingness to share information, exchange stories, and sometimes just give a hug when it's time to do that. I admire those putting u...

Re: Wife of a husband that just went through stage 3 colorectal cancer need advice

You already have a family awareness that this might not be his normal behavior but something that is induced from treatment, and hopefully short term. Your oncologist probably has suggestions. I'd suggest patience by those who are around him, and getting him out to do as much walking as he can do wi...

Very sorry to hear that result.

I know little about HIPEC but is that an option?

Re: How long after colon resection did you feel back to normal?

I'm 10 years out this month and never did get back to ... "normal." I function fine and do most anything I want to do. But I had a severe response to chemo/rad, which triggered joint damage. With light use of painkillers, I can get through most days with a near normal schedule. But it is u...

Re: I did it!

Very impressive story. But I have a question.

All surgery exposes a patient to risk, due to use of anesthesia, and more. Do you regret having your surgery, and exposing yourself to those risks, considering that you cured yourself with diet?

Re: Husband recovering from LAR and need opinions on Path report please!

I don't understand all the terms you have mentioned but his path report after surgery seemed to have many of the same "good" observations as mine. Clear margins is huge, no lymph node involvement as well, moderately differentiated, etc. I am guessing the T4 is the tissue invasiveness which...

Re: Newly diagnosed

I'm one of those looking back over a decade. My stage IIIb diagnosis was in July 2007. I would talk with your employer and keep them up to date with your situation. You will likely need some accommodation here and there, maybe even more than that, as you progress through treatment. Some only have mi...

Re: Rectal cancer (Stage 3A) diagnosed late June 2017

Regarding: " I don't have as much energy as I did before diagnosis" After my IIIb diagnosis, I applied tremendous focus on getting in shape for the upcoming surgery and battle. I started out being moderately sedentary, with my exercise choice being laps in the pool. At first it was one or ...
