Re: The Erbitux Rash Blues

So glad to hear I'm not along in my pain and suffering with the Erbitux rash. By the way, I've decided the term rash is just a politically correct term for chemo-induced acne. My "rash" is nothing more at this point than a really, really bad case of the acne. A really, really bad case. I h...

Re: Remission with stage 4 metastatic colon cancer?

I so needed to see this today. I'm stage IV, on Irinotecan and Erbitux, and struggling mentally. I needed hope - thanks for giving it back to me. And, so many congrats!

Re: Newly dx'd stage 4 after 3 yrs in remission

Hi all - thanks for the replies. I'll try to answer all questions. I guess I was worried about how my body would react to this chemo - the Folfox made me very weak, sick, etc. This round of Folfiri made me queasy, but not sick, so I count that as a point in the win column. :) Avastin appeared to go ...

Newly dx'd stage 4 after 3 yrs in remission

Hi all - just thought I'd share my story. Still terrified and shocked - hoping for some advice and maybe some glimmer of hope. :) I was originally dx'd with stage 3 sigmoid colon cancer back in May of 2008 at the age of 31. No family history, no genetic reason for this. Had a colon resection (12&quo...

Re: Question about chemo/intimacy

This is great information - I did approach hubby with this information this morning, and while I will say that he was disappointed that he didn't have the answer to his problem (the neuropathy is mainly in his hands and feet), he is willing to go to the doctor's, which I think is the best bet. He's ...

Re: Question about chemo/intimacy

That's really good information to have about the half-lifes. I hadn't thought to look into that, but it makes perfect sense. I'm going to tell him to head to the drs. He's had this before, and I know it's something that needs to be addressed. I think he's grasping at straws for reasons not to go to ...

Question about chemo/intimacy

Hi - I've been a stalker for a while, finally logged in and started responding in the past couple of weeks. You all have been amazing to "listen" to, and it's been so helpful during both my chemo and my post-chemo life. Quick version of my story: I was dx with stage III colon cancer (5cm t...

Re: FOLFOX hair loss

Hair on my head got thinner (by probably half or more), and the hair on my legs, etc. got much thinner and grew pretty slowly. Once I was done, it took about three months before I started to see it get thicker. Texture changed (was really curly before chemo, now, not so much).

Re: Pre-Cancerous Polyp, I'm 27

I wouldn't say that it's EXTREMELY rare that someone your age has pre-cancerous polyps. A friend of mine who passed away from cc in August (at age 29) insisted that her family and friends get colonoscopies. 2 out of her 4 friends that have had scopes since then had pre-cancerous polyps, with NO fami...

Re: STRUGGLING A BIT EMOTIONALLY

When I completed chemo December of 2008, I assumed that I had been through the hardest part - the fight was over. What I came to learn over the past year is that you never stop fighting. You are always worried about "something." I ended up going on an anti-depressant and seeing a counselor...

Re: Anyone try Osmo tablets as a prep?

The pills are much better then trying to drink the liquid. I've done both, and will ask for the pills again. My recommendation - drink the pills with Gatorade. It helped cut down on the salty taste that happens when you swallow the pills. Or, it did for me. I found that keeping your fluids up was VE...

Re: March 5 is dress in blue day

Check the CCalliance.org website - if you have a local chapter, they might have events happening in March to promote colorectal cancer awareness month. I know here in AZ, we have DIB day, a motorcycle run, a "Night Out" with the Phoneix Suns, and a couple of advocacy events. It's a busy mo...

Re: What effect does chemo have on hormones?

I am still having issues with the hormones. Before dx, I was irregular at best. Now, I'm almost to the minute...you can set a clock by it. On top of that, I'm dealing with acne like I've never had before (worse than when I was a teenager, and that was pretty bad), PMS that is awful for me and for th...

Re: I'm 6 days post-chemo-SO NAUSEATED! Advice?

One of the drugs they gave me was Kytril. I found that Ativan worked best for me, but again, it's all so different for each person. Mint seemed to work best for me - mint hard candy, gum, etc. This seemed to settle my tummy. I couldn't handle the ginger - but, mint seemed to help. This worked well w...
