Re: Folfox4 or folfox6

When I went through chemo, I had a lot of questions regarding Folfox4 or Folfox 6. I actually got three different opinions on what my regimen should be from 3 different oncologists. At that time (and it's been over 5 years), Folfox6 had a higher dose of Oxaliplatin. I believe that the 5FU and the le...

Re: My dad has CC they say...

Please do not worry about the specialist at this point. I was an emergency surgery and had a general internal surgeon. I had no choice in the matter since I was in such bad shape. The next opening was mine and I had to take it. They just assigned a surgeon. Anyway, I was staged at a IIIC. It's been ...

Re: When is your cancer free birthday?

I asked this question a lot as I got first, second, third opinions prior to beginning treatment. Clearly, I was anxious to start counting. All my docs agreed that you start counting from the day there is no evidence of disease, which for most people is the date of surgery. My surgery was on 2/5/04 a...

5 years today!

I used to be a regular poster on this site, but I have not posted in a while. I still check this site regularly to see how people are doing. I suppose I don't post much any more because it seems like my knowledge of colon cancer and treatments is no longer that current. I am posting today to share m...

Re: MD Anderson? Newly diagnosed, need advice.

You are asking very good questions and they are the right ones. You definitely need to find out why they want surgery immediately. When I was diagnosed, I was told the same thing as you. However, I had a complete blockage and was in extreme pain, vomitting constantly, convulsing, etc... There was no...

Re: Stage IIIers - chemo advice; Chicago area oncologists???

Thank you all for taking the time to reply. I do appreciate your input and have passed it along to my friend. When I was diagnosed, oxaliplatin was just approved for Stage IV. Literally, the night I came home from the hospital, there was a story on the news about it. It was not approved for Stage II...

Stage IIIers - chemo advice; Chicago area oncologists???

Hi all. I had stage IIIC cc four years ago and now have a friend going through this. She has questions for me and I'm not really sure what has changed since my diagnosis. What chemo regimens are you receiving now for stage III ... she has not yet seen her oncologist, but we think she's probably a st...

Re: Elevated Liver Enzyme

My liver enzymes were elevated with Folfox as well. My onc said that was normal. He continued to monitor me every 3 months following chemo and I think it took almost 9 months for them to get back within the normal range. He told me that he just wanted to watch it to make sure it wasn't something els...

Re: High risk for reoccurance

I too was told I was a high risk for recurrence due to lymph node involvement and full obstruction. I think when you're stage IIIC as both you and I were, they say that and they watch you closely. It does NOT mean that you will recur. I knew all along that recurrence may happen, but it never did for...

I was diagnosed a little over four years ago with four out of 19 nodes positive. Went through 6 months of Folfox6 and have been NED ever since. Lymph node involvement is not a death sentence and do NOT let her doctor tell you otherwise.

I see Dr. Linus Ho at MD Anderson. He is one smart man, good with the patients (at least for me) and I would definitely recommend him.
